In the second half of the series, John, Alex, and Allen consider three questions that reveal how we see the world, culture and the process of staying close to God. They also share their top daily practices that proved a lifeline for 2023...and are their non-negotiables for 2024.

Psalm 2 seems to be proving truer and truer every day, but I also know God's heart--He is for us and not against us. The world situation sometimes leaves me conflicted--what has Satan promised our current crop of "leaders" to get them to try to herd us all down paths like they seem to be trying to get our countries to take? Then I shudder at the thought of finding out the answer to that question... Worse, when God tries to offer deliverance from this, people stand in his face (seemingly) and literally _scream "No!"_. It feels like significant parts of the world have gone (or are going) insane...!

A Navigator missionary told me shortly after I came to faith, the closer you are to God the closer you are to reality. This is true and has been helpful in keeping me grounded. I really enjoyed this vlog! Thank you!

Out of need last year, I took on replacing the head gasket on my son’s Civic (a stretch for my capability and a good thing). Since getting that done successfully, I went into overdrive to work on our other vehicles to being obsessive about it. Listening here was very clarifying to realize the pull of something that began as good and a neat way to resolve a problem became a way to falsely control a part of my world. The daily household prayer and bedtime prayer has been a fundamental rescue. Protecting the early morning devotional time and prayer has been wonderful but the work to push the noise and chaos out has to be much more intentional to abide and carry that into the day. This resonated with my reality with great clarity. Thanks guys!

This is so true. The days I let the world distract me then I feel off kilter until I get back on schedule. I agree that it is essential in this crazy world to keep close to God. It seems that there are so many things that want to interrupt my prayer and reading the bible. The people I know that don't have God are turning to everything else to get them through. If we gave God the time we spend on meaningless things, just think where we would be. This talk was a great help for me.

I love that John mentioned the audio Bible. I’m reading The M’Cheyne ESV Bible reading plan with Kristyn Getty on Spotify. She’s got a relaxing, soothing voice. Often I’m so in tune with her reading, I’m like… but hey what happens next? Thank you, gentlemen. I’m beat - the world is on spin dry. 🌎 Your reminders refresh me.

Thoroughly blessed by the transparency, the “real-ness” of each of you men. I embrace similar practices to abide in Jesus…and yes, it is such a daily, hourly choice I so desire to grow in. Thank you for sharing these truths and what matters.

#3 staying close to God is DEFINITELY requiring more & more effort with mixed results. Just fyi, i have been listening to your daily prayer (extended version) John for many, many years. God used that prayer to help start my healing process. Thank you John & Wild at Heart!

Thank you! It is immediately evident to me in the quality of my consciousness and daily life when I've fallen off seeking God diligently. I thank God that he so quickly shows me when I've fallen off the horse! It's not easy to keep a meaningful daily practice, so some days it is not meaningful at all and I know I'm just going through the motions, but I confess that to him in the moment and still go through those motions. I transcribe the gospels, as that slows me down immensely and forces me to focus on each and every word to prevent mistakes. At the end of the few months it takes me to write out the four books, I have a beautiful little hand-written journal of scripture that I gift to someone when directed by the Holy Spirit. Writing the Word has been life-changing for me!

Where do I go to... Online shopping! Costs a fortune but provides hours of distraction, looking for items, reading reviews, finally placing an order and awaiting it's arrival... Realistically, it often doesn't matter what it is - there's a hit that comes from it

Please people, I am not being critical or judgemental in any way, but I would dare to say that these fellows don't have to get up at 4 am, rush off to work (in an extremely fast paced, physical labor production job at 61 years old), to get there by 5, and work 10 hours, come back home exhausted because you can't, or weren't able to sleep that well the night before...well you get the picture!!! Everything they are saying is true, but the average working stiff has way more obstacles to overcome. I wish they would acknowledge that, and even address that...😢

@@kristycherry3356 Thank you Kristy, I do. I really miss being able to spend the time in the morning with God though. He said He would never leave or forsake me, so I have that to hold on to.

I Definitely feel you, I spent 32 years at Fedex Express as a courier, 10-11 hour days plus an hour and a half commute all the while trying to raise three kids and lead small groups at Church. Definitely not a life that lends itself to closeness in any relationship let alone with God. Hang in there, stay as close to Him as you can.

@@robertkendall1037 I thank you my brother for your understanding. Life is rough and I don't have the answers for sure. It's funny you mentioned FedEx Express, as I worked for FedEx for 2 months and it was 1.5 hours just to get to the delivery area too! God has given these men their lives, gifts, and has allowed them to flourish in them.

We have a wildly diverse audience for the Wild at Heart podcasts. Male and female. Married and single. Financially set and barely getting by. New believers and long-term followers of Christ. Some have too much time on their hands (for those who are looking for work or have lost a spouse). Others have little free time. We appreciate you sharing the challenges of your work world. We'll do our best to keep those realities in mind as we discuss what it means to love God and live free each week.
