Belize needs to grow, but not at the expense of its own citizens or loss of habitat for the flora and fauna. If only the roads were better. It would vastly improve life for the average person. Invest in solar power, as there's unlimited sunshine. Another natural resource and non-polluting.

Over the tens of thousands of years of human history countries have changed hands, changed religion as well as changed the demographics of who holds power. The United States of America was stolen from the indigenous native Americans and they will never get back what they lost. Black Americans have had their freedom and identity stolen from them and are still struggling. History is a roller coaster ride. You're either going up, down or spun around until you don't know which way is up. I look for the day, long after I'm dead, that we'll stop fighting each other and work to help those who need it.

The oil that is extracted from our lands is more than enough. The problem is that we do not have a refinery, therefore the oil is transported next door to Mexico to be refined, then brought back. This results in the high prices of gasoline in Belize. Last thing that I have heard on this problem is that they have the backing of Mexican investors to construct a refinery in Belize.

Belize at one time had one of the highest literacy rates in the entire Western World. This was because of the British system of education. Demographics/ large changes in the make up of the population changed that. Also, the south side of the city is often referred to as " Old Belize City" for a good reason. It is the " remnants" of our colonial past.

Many people in Southern Belize , in towns such as Placencia and Punta Gorda are doing relatively well. Also, emigration was largely responsible for bringing down the literacy rate of Belize, because up until the mid 1980's Belize had the highest literacy rate in that entire region, thanks to the British system of education. At one time, Belize had an approximately 85 to 90 percent literacy rate. Corporal punishment in schools was legal and most primary schools had religious affiliations such as with the Catholic Church.
