Keep in mind that Belkin is part of Foxconn now, so it's not the same company as it once was. Interestingly, the Satechi has the same, not so good imho, type of slide on international plug adapter as the 140 W Aukey I recently got. Even though they slide on, the little square between the US pins is the only thing that holds the plugs in place once sliden on and the overall design uses a lot less plastic in the construction, which makes them feel flimsy and not attached properly.

haha, yeah, the Belkin is not bad, it feels like it had older modes of operation but I look at that as a positive. I have USB A to C cables and C to C so I could make use of the Belkin charger as a daily driver, charging 4 devices.

Power efficiency rules! Will save you money on the long term! DOE level 6 should be mandatory by now for all types of power adapters. So the Belkin is the best in this test.

Wish I saw this video before I bought the Satechi 108W wall charger. They claim the top port goes to 100W, but my testings agree with yours that it's more like a 90-18 split. It completely cannot deal with my laptop which needs a bit over 90W power at times, making it useless for me. I had to purchase Anker 717 for my laptop instead.

The value chart could use some better numbers though so maybe moving the size, volume, into that chart will help. I wouldn't compare to number of ports or type of ports, that's too far from useful. I had asked what people want when I introduced that chart and got crickets. So, maybe 5 columns with one being volume, in cubic centimeters, and one being watts/liter? Remove ports.

We're moving into a USB C world, but that doesn't mean that we'll be leaving USB A behind anytime soon, so I feel at least the types supported still matters. Sorry if I didn't respond to the chart question, I've only recently been consistently watching your stuff. Cubic centimeters is fine for volume, but I recommend making it Watts/Cubic Centimeter just to make it consistent. Or milliliters and Watts/milliliters.

I think manufacturers continue to include a thin layer of plastic packaging on devices like this because they're worried an end customer will return the device if it arrives slightly scuffed, which it might if it ends up rubbing and rattling against the cardboard tray (slightly abrasive) and/or the rest of the packaging during its long shipping journey. Personally, I think that's a dumb reason and the slightest hint of rubbing on a plastic device that will immediately get scuffed way worse the first time you try to use it is completely irrelevant, but the marketing and packaging people at companies like this are absolutely obsessed with the out of box "experience"...

Yep, 100% with you. The larger Satechi packaging, which I didn't show, came in a plastic tray, exactly molded to the shape, so it really didn't have any excuse to wrap in more plastic. It has a plastic cover over that too so it really can't move. But yet, that one was fully wrapped in plastic. I had one of these arrive with a cardboard box and no packing at all, just loose in the box with a piece of paper, not a mark on it.

These do follow the rules for PD 3.1. The power sharing is all up to the manufacturer though.

Yeah, I do test on both voltages sometimes. The DC side will be identical. In general there is a tradeoff on the AC side. The idle power will be worse on 220 but the efficiency can be higher (not always). In general the power quality gets worse. I usually see about the same real watts into the device but apparent power will be higher if the device does not have a PFC built in, essentially this means a little more real cost to the user.

I feel like I see the figure-8 style power cables frequently, not as often as the 3-prong ones you put into power supplies but almost as often. Is that a standard of some sort or could it become standard for power that needs to go above the USB-C 240W current max? It seems much nicer than barrel jacks.

Yeah, the figure-8 style is a standard, it is an IEC C7 plug. These can easily handle hundreds of watts on the AC side.

ah yeah, I was going to say the brick one is fine. The small one kind of sucks performance wise. It does still work fine it's just not efficient. In terms of it operating and being safe, it checks those boxes, it will just cost more a little amount more money to operate per year.

Hmm, there are tons of options. For 100 watt desktop I use the gan3 baseus and the 165 watt satechi. Even though I don’t need the extra watts it keeps the charger operating cooler with lots of devices plugged in.

Excellent video! Too bad I found it after purchasing larger Satechi 108W brick, that I have now returned. Not only I confirmed your measurements of poor idle power consumption and efficiency, I also found it produces ugly more than 100mV ripple in audible 4kHz range, that is complete showstopper - causing coil whines in connected devices that were otherwise completely quiet with other charger. This is not the first Satechi product that looks find on the first glance, but it is completely technical disaster. I am not sure how it is even possible that you can still such poorly engineered products these days. I will try out the Belkin one as I am looking for something that can power MiSTer and USB-C screen without resetting the power.

Yeah, I'm not sure why Satechi releases great products and complete fails. They're all marketed the same so it is very confusing to know what you are going to get. Interesting on the ripple side and making noise in devices. I have experienced that with other equipment but not USB adapters yet, surprisingly. Noise from the adapter is somewhat common.

Thank you for the video! I bought the Belkin to give enough power to my Asus Rog Ally, while using a usb c dock, which is specified to send power up to 100 watts to the connected device. Normally it needs 65 Watts, so i thought, the Belkin can deliver 96 watts, the Usb Hub will need some power and give the rest to the Rog Ally. But the Belkin is not giving 65 Watts to the Rog Ally, even when its connected directly to the device. Do you have a tip for me, am i doing it wrong? I used the 96W / 65W Usb C Port to try this!

I also tested it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra and compared it to its original 45W Charger with the App "Ampere", and it only delivered 2000 ma, while the Samsung Charger delivered about 4850 ma...

I understand on the Samsung why this doesn't work. The S8 is using the programmable power supply mode, the Belkin lacks that. So, it is stuck in a slower charging mode. It isn't just current that matters for the charging though, so if it takes advantage of PD and is using the charger at 2A and 20V then it is probably charging at about the same speed but I doubt it is, it's probably 5V or 9V and 2A. For the USB C dock, there are so many options out there, knowing what you are using and whether it will be compatible is a question, and what protocol the Rog Ally uses for charging as well. Generally, 65W devices are going to be in the normal PD category with a 20V-3.25A output which should be in range of the Belkin with no issues. In looking up the ROG Ally, "Fast Charging Technology is tested while the device is powered off" small caveat there in the fine print, also note no definition of what fast charging is. Also for the specified charger they give specs but they don't give a protocol, "TYPE-C, 65W AC Adapter, Output: 20V DC, 3.25A, 65W, Input: 100~240V AC 50/60Hz universal" so chances are this is a proprietary protocol not compatible with USB Power Delivery. So, yes, like the Steam Deck, the Switch, and most Lenovo, Dell and HP laptops, products continue to be produced with a physical connector that is shared but charging compatibility that is not. The USB spec is free and open too. They may be forced to use the connector but not the protocol. So, the Belkin is not compatible with those devices.

I use a INIU Fast Charge Powerbank for the Asus Rog Ally, and this one is giving the "right" 65W to it.Model Name is: BI-B63, Out1=5V=3A 9V=3A 12V=3A 15V=3A 20V=3.25A 65W(max) - does this tell you, what kind of protocoll the Asus Rog Ally is expecting?? Would be nice to hear your thoughts about it!

Typically, the results will be a little different on 230v/50hz. In general the trend unit to unit would stay the same but usually a little less efficient at low power levels and more efficient at high power levels. I occasionally measure and show both in videos. I think the 165 watt satechi I show both.

@@AllThingsOnePlace That's great to hear. I compared the Voltme to those other chargers based on pictures. One major difference I noticed is that the gaps between the ports on Voltme are perfectly equal (distance between C1 & C2 = distance between C2 & Type A), which indicates that it has a different PCB design compared to the Shargeek. The Shargeek and it's comparables all have their second Type C port not perfectly aligned in the middle of the top Type C port and the bottom Type A port (distance between C1 & C2 > distance between C2 & Type A). That's why I find the Voltme interesting and placed an order for it. It's arriving today and I hope I'm not making a bad purchase. I'll make sure to watch your review of it. The Anker 140W single port looked promising but it has tons of negative Amazon reviews complaining about it's reliability (lots of DOA, lots of RMA after a few days/few times of regular use/few months, etc.). I almost bought the Anker to pair it with my 737 power bank until I saw those Amazon reviews.

This 108W Belkin is not compatible. It will still charge, but at lower speed, 10 or 15 watts probably. The PPS charger hopefully will work but they don't say anything on the entire product page about what it actually supplies, also absolutely no technical specifications are provided at all, not even a user manual (which we know is just a lot of paper and no specs also). They put everything on the product label, just put a picture of the label on the web site... So, no idea. Also, looks like it is out of stock.

To be honest, I am not really impressed with any of these 3. I think they all have their issues, because each one misses the mark in one area or the other. I think that Basseus are still the winners in the power adapter USB charger realm. Its really sad seeing big name brands falling short, yet no name brands from China like Basseus, outclasses them all. Honestly, I think we need to stop having high expectations from brands like Anker and Belkin. A name means nothing, if the product isn't there to back it up.

Baseus is very impressive performance wise. I wonder if the Evatronic copy will do as well. I expect it to be exactly the same. It seems like each has a category they are good at. Anker rules 120-150 watts. Satechi is king at 165 watts. Baseus rules 100 watts. Belkin is great at low wattage, 30. UGREEN is on top at 20 watts. Everything I've looked at above 165 hasn't been great, ha. I do understand what Belkin did with this product, labelled the ports clearly, and identified how each works right on the product, as well as thought about how they work. Not more ports for the sake of more ports.

@@DrCmoments Apparently Baseus was founded in 2011, and I assume that they are well known in China. But reality is, they came out of nowhere and just showed up in the US market not that long ago. They are not a known brand here. And even though they market their products to the US now, if you asked any American if they know the Baseus brand, most would say no.
