Nice to see an original “Whirley bird” flying. Nice camera work, you really get an idea of how simple the design is, with nearly everything important easy to get at and inspect.

when i was 6 years old this was my first love. this piston powered helicopter. ive gotten to ride in one 2 times in my life. my turbine powered helicopter i loved was the hughes 500d. this was the sports car model. much faster than the bell but you just cant beat the view you get with the bell. now im 69 years old and i still love this bird.

Got my License in a 47 (D) model the D stands for DOG not much power but what nice Heli. It also had wooden blades (no time limit) man best auto's in the world...

Nice bit of history. My dad learned on and flew the D - and would have agreed with that!

It looks like you take spectacularly good care of this aircraft. If not financially rewarding, I'm sure it will reward you with reliability. 1:59 Looks like a SPOT tracker.

Great airplane - just keep your wits and eyes on whats going on when in or around a Bell 47, ESPECIALLY with the engines off, but rotor head still spinning - even to the last 20 or 30 rpms till 100% shutdown, as there is no rotor brake in the Bell 47. The blades......when even a bit windy, can dive down to BELOW head level. I know this because I was struck in the head by the main rotor blade of a Bell 47 - AT EAA / AIRVENTURE. Cut my ear in half.
@letsflyinternational Жыл бұрын
Yikes yes- that’s for sure! - esp at low rpm the ‘rabbit ears’ pop up and the blade can teeter even farther down!
