I'm curious to know, because, (as a man) my understanding of issues involving race, gender, class--and every other "ism" in existence has been undeniably enhanced by reading the collective works of bell hooks; Toni Morrison; Malcolm X; James Baldwin. She is a "messenger", and her message was TO white people, about her family, that she converted into the entire black history in the U.S. No serious thinker, would use the word "Patriarchy" with black men, when the concept explicitly excluded Black men from patriarchy--marrying a white woman. bell hooks put her family business in the streets and built a career around it, but her abusive relatives, are not most black men.
