Bell Race Star Helmet Review
www.revzilla.co...
For years the Bell Star title has signified the best in the brand’s track-day offerings. With the introduction of the Bell Race Star Helmet and it’s totally redesigned brethren, the entire Star lineup can be seen through a new, refined, and drastically improved lens. What the Bell Race Star offers is a premium racetrack helmet that is step above anything that Bell has produced before. The 3k Carbon Fiber outer shell allows for an astonishingly light 3lb 3oz weight (size Medium) while retaining the protective capabilities that pass both DOT and Snell 2015 safety standards. Additionally, the Race Star features a new internal orientation for better vision on the track, as well as an expanded Panavision shield that has been strategically designed to allow for improved vision behind riders during a head-check. Quieter, lighter, and more aggressive than ever, the Bell Race Star Helmet is here to usher in a new era in helmets.

I really like that Orange and black Race Star but I don't guess that would serve me too well on my Fat Bob. My old RS1 is due for replacement. I remember when they made Bell helmets in Rantoul, Illinois. Friends could get blems super cheap.

Was researching on some shoei helmets and some hjc helmets but i looked at the sharp crash testing and this got 5 Stars and the others got 3 for some weaker side impacts. Snell approved and 5 star sharp rated. Best bang for the buck imo.

I really like the technology and design of this helmet. My father uses the Bell Star Pro and absolutely loves it. He rides a ZX-14, though. However, I just bought a 2018 MT09. I won't be chin on the tank much of the time. I want this helmet for an upright riding position. What do you recommend?

@@RevZilla 2017 FJ-09: great helmet for that bike, I can confirm. Coming from Shoei GT-Air, I wish it had cutouts for speakers, default visor with pinlock (I got the photochromic one), and a better neck "roll". It feels flimsy there vs. Shoei that was tighter and more air-tight even after years of use

Just to be clear - the Race Star *does* have legitimate cutouts for speakers in the ear-zone? I'd read that the regular Star has very shallow indentations at best and that installing comms is a challenge, especially considering the 'snug' fit of the Race and Pro Stars.

Edit Note: OK, so I posted this comment before seeing the Bell "regular" Star review. My questions are answered over at that specific review, so if you have the same questions head over to the Bell Star review. LoL! Thank you so much for the "detailed breakdown", that was indeed, detailed! It is most appreciated, since I'm well invested into Bell helmets as a customer. I've been waiting for this information and "launch" for a while. I'm a little bummed that the RS1 is discontinued because it was a bit more affordable. Now to stay with Bell I'll have to spend a little more for a regular Star and buy a new Transitions shield, which undoubtedly went up in cost also? Since there are some benefits to the new "regular" Star over the RS1, can you state those gains that justify the increase in customer cost as compared to the RS1 line? The video talked a lot about the "Race Star" and "ProStar". Are you able to quantify the weight savings and noise reduction? I understand the shield now has a more positive gasket seal, which may well reduce the noise level, as I did find the RS1 to be a bit noisy. One last question. Can you ask RSD to continue with the "Flash" series graphic, as it was completely awesome! Thank You from Sunny Santa Cruz, Ian

The Race Star has a snug fit, so you might be closer to the medium (MD). As for speakers, you are correct. We recommend using a GoPro Side Mount mounted offset from center. +Grant85kg All helmets that pass Snell will most likely also pass ECE since Snell is more rigorous. only reason some manufacturers only do ECE is that it is a cheaper fee also it allows them to make lighter helmets. The extra requirements of Snell pushes the helmets to be a little heavier than ECE helmets and also a little safer. but ECE is mostly as safe as Snell. Why pay twice the fees of Snell and ECE when either will get you through any track or racing organization. hope I helped you
@HoosierBearcat25

I appreciate the response, but IMHO Snell M2015 isn't necessarily "better" than ECE 22.05. Helmets that pass Snell M2015 may not pass ECE 22.05, and helmets that pass ECE 22.5 may not pass Snell M2015. The hype surrounding this new Bell Star was that it could potentially settle the argument once and for all by meeting all safety standards. Wes Siler wrote an excellent piece on the helmet industry and it's rating systems, if you haven't read it you should check it out... indefinitelywild.gizmodo.com/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-motorcycle-sa-1596858706

+Grant85kg It can be true or just a rumor, but at the end of the day I don't think they will pay both organizations for the same thing basically. it would just increase the prices of already expensive lids. in my opinion Bell should have at least made those helmets in America instead of China, because it would definitely be a selling point. No high end helmet at that price range is made in China.

Any dedicated cutouts for speakers in this helmet?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 7 жыл бұрын
No, the three Bell Star models (Star, Race Star, Pro Star) do not have speaker cut-outs. They are not ideal for communicator speakers. -DrewZilla

RevZilla you're right, but I have installed Sena 20S with clamp mount and the speakers dont touch ears.( sticker mount will be even better) it works out well :)

+Goose Fraba As long as you have room around the ears for speakers, you're fine. Many people don't have enough room to use speakers comfortably though. -DrewZilla

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 жыл бұрын
+LonghornFinch Yes, the Race Star is a great upgrade from the Scorpion EXO-R2000. The big upgrades are the 3-layer Flex impact technology, "Panovision" face shield, Virus Cool Jade liner, and Magnefusion cheek pads. -DrewZilla

No, the helmet does not come with a Pinlock insert, and the stock face shield is not Pinlock-ready. The Panovision Pinlock Face Shield and Insert are sold together separately from the helmet. I've linked it below. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/bell-panovision-pinlock-ready-face-shield
