Ringing on this ground floor Wiltshire 6. They have a grand, old-fashioned sound to them but are fun and games to ring. They are rung from the chancel and have a long unguided draught, the trebles are rung from the chancel steps, the middle bells suck and blow like there is no tomorrow and the tenor is just a girt lump! We had planned to go for a quarter here but a late arrival and the awkward bells deterred us. Here is the ringing we did produce;
0:06 rounds to get used to the bells and to view the draught
0:52 Jack turning the tenor (cast c1350) over
1:15 Plain Pie Minor
2:46 Grandsire on the back 5
Tenor 16cwt in F
dove.cccbr.org....
The band consisted entirely of KZbinrs - Alex Hosking (hoskingalex,) Aaron Moulder (anonmonen,) Nick Bowden (nwbowden,) Jack Pease (bellminsterboy,) and Simon Edwards (simonbellringer,) plus Margaret Chapman who was guesting!!

Very nice video, I love church bells. One of my first memories is hearing church bells in springtime while my mother hung clothes on the clothesline. Leaning out of the kitchen window,the squeaky pulley on the clothesline and bells ringing from the church 2 blocks away. I'm glad you guys don't go for the speed-style of bell ringing! I just looked at St.Paul's Cathedral and was sorry to see them ringing just a tiny bit too fast. Only a tiny bit, but it seemed so much like the fast paced world. I know it wasn't always like that. I might just have to check at this video on any given Sunday. Wish I could travel again, it's a lovely church. Looks wonderful.

Thanks for your comment. In regards to St Pauls - they may have looked like they were ringing faster but actually they would have been ringing slower than we were here - because there are more bells they need to ring quicker on top of the previous bell but because they are more bells - and much bigger - there is a lot of holding up and waiting for the other bells to turn. So half right!!

Thanks for replying. I can see that there's a lot of precision and timing in bell-ringing ! The effort you put into is appreciated ; your video is wonderful for me to see. Some people might want to keep the bells mysterious;a sound from heaven, as it were. It will remain that way for me even though I can now smile at the thought of lovely people dedicated to creating the heavenly sound! As for the video of St.Pauls, it was more bells being rung and though the notes (peals?) are supposed to overlap, it still sounds like a hurried sound more than a jubilant sound, brisk and joyous.The pace seemed off by a tiny bit. I feel bad criticizing the bell-ringers for this tiny (perceived) flaw. I've been to St.Pauls years ago and it was wonderful, absolutely a highlight of my life. A funny memory is this: At the top of St. Paul's I was outside on a little observation circle and some one had drawn a small heart with the words "Berta + Alfio.! Love.

Hate long unguided draught rings. In Hillsborough N Ireland, the draft is horrendous, and as I recall the 7th runs wild, you spend most of your time chasing after the sally

I used to balk at a long draught ring - and still am quite wary of them - but as long as one keeps a tight rope and doesn't handle like a loon they are generally OK!! In all fairness these didn't really fly about too much but they certainly didn't handle very well, the middle bells especially would be over the balance one minute and dropping like a stone the next!! Hey ho, all part of the fun :-)
