Bell Ringing at Liverpool Cathedral

Some Stedman Cinques and Spliced Plain and Little Bob Royal filmed on the 12 at Liverpool Cathedral. Sorry for the squint camera angle in the Stedman. Liverpool Cathedral is the highest and heaviest ring of bells in the world. You go up in 2 lifts and get excellent panoramic views from the top of the tower.

How does anybody ringing in there keep track of when they have to pull their own bells? Apart from when the bells have actually sounded? Because of all the echos, they sound like they're colliding into one another the whole time, the more bells being rung.

The lead (treble) as you see at 0:20 pulls off the bell as the last bell (tenor) to the left of them (as you look at it) catches the rope (sally) as it comes down. The ringers then follow one another pulling off slightly after the person in front of them (you can see this to the left side of the video at this time too). It's all about the rope sight and watching other ringers, a good ear helps but isn't necessary.

it just goes to prove than big is not better. yes its the highest ring and the heaviest but the ringing room is dpressing, the belfry is 75% waste of space and who wants to turn jn the tenor to a peal that sounds awful because of the accoustics in the belfry. I would love to hear them in a normal tower, they are lovely bells but any bell would sound awful in that tower.I think if added a false ceiling and accoustic insulation they would be a joy to listen to. If you had a spare million quid it would be possible
