Bella Hoare’s garden, paintings, natural swimming pool & her family’s historic garden, Stourhead.

In this video Bunny chats to Bella Hoare in her magnificent garden next to Stourhead. The world famous 18th Century landscape gardens were created by Henry Hoare (Henry the Magnificent). Bella is a direct descendant from Henry, and like him she is a banker, and gardener, but is also an artist.
Her exhibition ‘A Different Green’ takes place at The Oxo Tower on London’s South Bank between 22nd May and 2nd June 2024.
Bella has lived and worked in Russia, opens her garden (Gasper Cottage) under the NGS, and is passionate about colour, in both her art and garden.

What a multi-talented and energetic lady! I like her sense of humor. I caught a glimpse of a black iron gate with leaf motif, which I'll have to go back and find again. While most of the gardeners featured are more 'high-end' than I am, I enjoy seeing that they have the same passion for plants and can realize a dream garden. Something to aspire to.

The gate was made by Jack’s Bush Forge near Salisbury - based on a scribbled design i did on a napkin! They are brilliant craftsmen.

I am a painter and I also love my garden. The one affects the other because when I garden it is as though I am painting with plants. It always depends on colour and shape relationships. It is very satisfying when it all comes together.

I have a tiny garden and a very small pension. I enjoy landscape and floral gardens. The amount of knowledge, history and tips that are offered up outweigh any envy I could have for her guests’ status.
