As a Turkish who grew up in early 2000s Eurovision was such a joy for me. Felt like you got to be part of whole world, at that time we got to vote with SMS for other countries, and there was a point system occasionally used politically and everyone would give the biggest point (12) to their dearest neighbouring country. Yet the other points would determine the real winner anyways. And it was such a blast to experience this unity in diversity. Unfortunately Turkey has left Eurovision in 2012 due to political sides and so-called inequality in voting system. We hope to come back in 2024, until then ❤🎉

I’m from the US and didn’t even know Eurovision was a thing until 2015 when some coworkers from Czechia (in the US for university studies) were talking about it. They showed me clips, then I found out it would be livestreamed/broadcast in the US in 2016 and I’ve been watching it ever since. I love discovering new artists and learning more about them, the countries, and the contest. I have many artists who I continue listening to their new music after the contest. I think it’s the most interesting, entertaining, and greatest live event ever put on tv (even better than the Olympics). I don’t understand why someone is asking why the US doesn’t participate in Eurovision, but I found the response by this person to be a clever answer. As an American I’m quite happy for the US to not participate (our broadcasters would just get all annoying and only talk about the American act just like they do with other international events like the Olympics……seriously miss some of the former commentators I remember watching as a kid/teen who would present fun facts about countries and talk about each countries teams; some like Johnny Weir and Tara Lapinski do that for figure skating which is why I adore that Johnny Weir is our Eurovision commentator because he loves sharing info and turns out he’s an American Eurovision fan, too!) and just get to watch. I think the reason why the US is not in Eurovision is the fact that they don't understand Eurovision and its point. They even tried to recreate the format and it had nothing to do with the original thing. They are simply not ready for it hahahhaha.
@cantsleeeep Жыл бұрын
I think also because they don't have the variety of the language, which is a treasure for the show, and the mixture of culture. I mean every state of Europe is different, but we all are all united by feeling European. Then I sense the fact that the Euro-dance is considered a little bit trashy by them, I don't know. Lastly, the culture of competition is too strong there, Eurovision is more of a party. To sum up, as you said, yeah, they're not ready for it! Sorry US

@@cantsleeeep USA absolutely has variety and diversity of varied cultures, like states themselves go from Samoa and Puerto Rico to Hawaii and New York or Boston, to hillbillies and country from the South. Reason Eurovision isn't popular in USA is the same why nobody in Europe plays handegg and baseball bats are just melee weapons. It's Americans trying to be too unique and isolated for their own good. I mean, I've actually seen Nascar and American Football games on TV and also Baseball is popular in Japan and South Korea so there's no reason for US and Europe to pretend there's some irreconcilable differences with people who use British imperial system to measure things.
@cantsleeeep Жыл бұрын
@@KasumiRINA Well I didn't mean US haven't a "variety and diversity of varied cultures". But language and being in the same nation play a big role. It would have sense if you set up an Americavision, and with that I mean north, centre, south America, not just US.

To add to why Australia is in eurovision, it's because there was a big influx of Greek (and other Europeans) migrants during the 50s. And it was because of those people, eurovision became popular in Australia. Then in 2015, as an act of appreciation, eurovision welcomed Australia to perform as a guest and when they performed better than anyone really anticipated, they were welcomed to perform again, year after year.

Tell them Bella! 😏I'm European, but live in the UK and I LOVE Eurovision. This is what I buy my TV license for. There are so many amazingly brilliant, unique, and creative entries. People who think you can win by "sending Adele" don't understand that it's not just about how good the singer is - a significant part of the score is composition and originality. That's why it's not like X Factor or any of those traditional singing competitions. You see a lot of very creative entries which have never been done before, and every year is different. You see music that is so different from the standard stuff you hear, and it pushes your comfort zone and introduces you to music and culture from other countries- UK people wonder why the UK often doesn't score highly thinking that it's about who likes you, not realising that the jury points are a composite score from professional musicians who grade entries on 4 criteria including vocal skill, composition, originality and overall impression. No one person can say "let's give X points to this country", they are automatically calculated based on the results of grading, where the top 10 average results get points ranking in order. We keep on sending the most basic and overdone stuff with no creativity and no technical skills displayed - what are they going to give us points for? In terms of the public, if you have a limited amount of votes, why would you spend money on a sympathy vote when you can vote for your favourite instead?

@knowledgemilldaily Жыл бұрын
@@talaniel No problem, I'm happy to explain! To clarify, UK people would typically refer to themselves as British rather than European, even while the UK was in the EU. When you say that you are European this would be perceived to mean from continental Europe. To an outsider, this may sound like the same thing, but the reality is that people from continental Europe are treated very differently from someone born in the UK, the further south and east you go, the worse you're regarded. If you're from the Balkans you'll be treated horribly, whereas someone from Scandinavia or Germany would be treated favourably. In my experience, people consider British to be above European in a sense. There is a lot of negativity about Eurovision and Europe/the EU as a whole. It's a sad situation.

Maybe, just maybe, bcz the Coldplay, Adele and Sam Smith didn't find the time between their concerts to participate in something so silly?
