Bella Thorne on Loving Her Skin - Including Her Acne Scars | Pretty Unfiltered

"I stopped giving a f*ck." That's one of my favorite parts of this week's Pretty Unfiltered with Bella Thorne, because it usually takes people a good 10 more years to get to that place in their life. It feels necessary to seek approval from others as a teen, but for Bella, growing up hasn't been hard to do. She's embraced herself and who she wants to become, which is fitting: the 18-year-old actress and ingenue stopped by to talk about her partnership with Burt's Bees (m.burtsbees.co...) and the #LoveYourNature campaign, and while shockingly wise for her age, she ended up revealing that she deals with the same insecurities any normal teenager might deal with.
Actually, this isn't a new revelation. While most young actresses have a team dictating their every move, Bella is a breath of fresh air. She says what she wants, but she's thoughtful. She's sweet, yet provocative. As a movie and television star, she's supposed to be unattainable and mysterious, but she's authentic in that she shares even her most insecure moments with her legions of fans: from dealing with breakouts to her dyslexia to preparing for a colonoscopy. (Yes, really.) It's the juxtaposition of her beauty to her penchant for curse words and oversharing that makes her as lovable as Chrissy Teigen. People love a dose of reality, and Bella serves it up just right.
Speaking of, Bella has always been candid about her relationship with acne. She's dealt with dermatitis from unwashed makeup brushes on set, she's been on Accutane, and she admits that it's been a journey to embracing her imperfections. Currently, her skin is gorgeous - take it from someone who was a good 12 inches away from it - but going through rough acne stages took its toll on the actress, both personally and professionally. "At one point, they said, 'Maybe you're not getting hired by directors because all they keep looking at is your skin," said Bella. She addresses the stereotypes associated with it as well. "You go out and people think you're dirty, that you're, like, disgusting. That you must not take care of yourself because you're uncleanly because you have acne," said Bella. "But really it's something that everybody f-cking gets!"
Bella admits that she's able to try different facial treatments and skin care products, which has gotten her skin under control, but it's far from perfect, and that's okay. "Just recently I started to become okay with it," said Bella. "Recently, my sister... we both struggle with trying to get acne taken care of. I was like, 'Look at this pimple! I have a press day tomorrow, how did this just happen to me?' and Dani was like, 'That is a beautiful pimple, Bella. Your face is beautiful. You have beautiful skin. You love your face,'" said Bella. The actress says that she speaks positively about herself to keep confidence in check, regardless of what's going on with her appearance.
That confidence has become stronger over the past few months; the actress has been more comfortable going out unmade-up in public. "In the past 3-4 months, I've really changed. I've really become a very different person," said Bella. "I'm really happy I've grown into who I'm becoming now and who I will become. And I kinda just changed my whole opinion, which was..." she pauses for me a minute, takes a second to think, and goes for it. "'I don't give a f-ck.' I don't care. You wanna trash me? I don't care!"
Maybe it's because she's a great actress, but I felt connected to Bella. She puts you at ease and makes you feel like you've known her forever, whether it's not being not caring about personal bubbles on set, getting real about issues most would avoid talking about or resting her head on yours for a cute photo. It's rare to find someone so open and trusting in the social media-driven world we live in, and I can only hope she keeps that quality for years to come.

Meet me, babe! Well I am kinda Tom boy and people tell me that I have pretty face but I have been having acne since I was very young. Never in my life it crossed my mind that what people think about me or my face. I am as chilled as I could be. At the end of the day all these people who stare at us are strangers and we might not see them again ever. So why worry about that. Trust me people don't care about us or acne as we don't care about others, we look at them and say meh! And then move on. I wear scarf so my face is more prominent and I stand out more because my scarf alone and it attracts alot of attention but I don't give a shit and move on. I am married to a wonderful man and I have kids and their love is what that matters to me. Love yourself if not, then who will love you.

I cried!!!!😢 when Bella said that when people look at your acne they think you don't take care of yourself. I try to do anything to get rid of my acne I wash my face every day I'm a clean person. I had acne at the age of 9 and I still do people used to call me ugly troll and pimple face and a wimple which means weird pimple, well at least that's what my brother called me!

💜I have really bad++acne. It will be clear for a while then pop//up and multiply. I have been struggling with clearing it up. {{{I began using Maxelder+argan+cream}}}( i found it w....nyarganoil....c ) and I have seen immediate results…I cleaned my face really well before bed and applied the cream to my breakout spot. Some people don't understand the struggles Us girls and boys go through due to acne, depression, and Society. And people get so sad and stressed because criticism. They have the nerve to make fun, and just make them feel bad about themselves...Some of that actually have made people think of suicide. Honestly I have acne and I need to get approved for Accutane and I'm starting school Tommorow, I hope when I wake up I don't look horrendous. I try to stay positive but in the end I always break down at some point, I've had bad acne for 3 years now, and hopefully Accutane finally helps. I had cystic acne 1 to ,10 being worst about a 8.5. It can be nearly completly removed with diet and mental calm practices plus chemical peels or medical skin care. So save up and do all these things there is hope. Never thought id go with out make up in my life. Now I do always and even though currently experiencing adult break outs on fair skin I am matured and self loving now and know there is a way to tend to it. I was acne-free before I turned 21. Then suddenly it started with 1 pimple and more and more came like hurricane. Now, my face is covered with acne scars and I am ashamed because of them . I am afraid if I bump into my old friends and they will notice my used to be acne-free flawless face is now fill with acne scars almost every part of my face. I stop wearing make up when I realized that it can't even cover up my scars as the scars are dark brown colored. I am now wearing rice soap and I notice that my pimples are not appearing as often as before. Acne does lower my self esteem especially when people stare at me. It hurts more when my parents said I'm ugly because of it. They said I don't take care of my face well as they have flawless face. Sorry, English is not my first language.

Okay... I have mild acne but my mum recently took me to the pharmacist to get a cream or treatment for it... I have been using benzac ac (benzenol peroxide I think) and it has worked absolute wonders... I don’t wear makeup though and I never have because I have always been scared about worsening my acne... But seriously this gel is worth looking into, it may not work for every one but it is DEFINITELY worth a shot. Btw good luck everyone with your acne!

Girls, getting rid of acne or at least keeping it under control is fairly easy. I had severe cystic acne for years... Wash your face with your preferred cleanser (I switch between body shop tea tree cleanser and Murad acne cleanser so my skin doesn't get too "used" to a cleanser) and MOISTURIZE! Girls always think that if you have acne you don't need to, but you do! Just use something light. I use laneige water sleeping mask or the watermelon glow mask from glow recipe. Treat acne with Mario badescu drying lotion (there's nothing better) and don't be afraid of oils! I use an all natural oil (sensitive skin elixir from SAGE- a Canadian company) almost every night and you have no idea how much this has helped with marks and scarring. It's really all about having a good skin care routine. Mask once a week, I like the Herbivore blue tansy (I think that's what it's called) mask. It has AHAs to exfoliate and make you glow. My skin has really cleared up and I've seen crazy improvements with scarring and active acne.
