I've listened and re-listened to this song easily 2, maybe 3 dozen times in the past week. It hits me in that same visceral way every time. Just amazing, everything about it. What's more, she wrote this when she was 18 years old. I'm 42, and it has taken me about that long to learn and relearn through hard life lessons the things that she has covered in this song. Super impressed. I have a feeling her and her band will be doing big things in the near future. Music does not get any better than this.

Lyrics : JUST LIKE LEAVING The lights pouring through my window dressing everything all up in gold and I don’t know what I’m doing here. I left the howling winds and the prairies to find some kind of idea, am I full or am I empty? Maybe I just like hurting, building up walls and then ripping them down with my own disposition. My own hurting masks the way I feel about the world and all the little things I wish were different And I’ve been grieving since I left old Carolina. The bars on my window didn’t leave me safe at night. Now i’ve chased your love cause I thought it might feel woolen. Like a dram on a damn cold winters night. Some things they just like leaving, like people love and money and I don’t know what it’s all running from. Perhaps the fear of splitting open, showing some parts of yourself that you don’t even really want to know. And I’ve been grieving since I left old Carolina. The bars on my window didn’t leave me safe at night. Now I’ve chased your love cause I thought it might feel woolen. Like a dram on a damn cold winters night.

The first time I heard this song, I just knew that Mandolin Orange must have been her backing band. Not only does the music sound like Andrew and Emily, but you're right, Bella's phrasing is very similar to Andrew's.

Simply isn't possible to... express how remarkably rare this is... I find this, in terms, perhaps, of "unique taste", to be comparable to Gillian Welch or Emmylou Harris - is that unique. Is simply a matter of time before this hits. Is important to note (and, hopefully, Bella, you [at least casually] skim through these early comments) that the difference between this performance and your studio release of the same song is Significant and this version shows Considerable evolution. Strongly recommend more ventures using locations similar to this: not only is the "sound" more... vibrant, YOU, and your accompanying musicians, are more vibrant. There is more feel, more texture and each of you is able to release in a significantly more energetic - yet Cohesive - way. Also, strongly, recommend using these same two young men for more videos/performances (work Extremely well with your music/intonation/style) and do not shy away from extended instrumental interludes/bridges. The next Gillian Welch.
