Wonderful to hear Belle and Sebastian on your channel. There are so many gems in their early albums. Please play more.

Really happy you've picked this, one of my favourite tracks from my favourite B&S album. Love how the gentleness of the sound here contrasts with the anger and violence of the lyric - easy to miss on a first listen, as you noticed!

Very gratifying to have my request fulfilled -thanks JP! Tigermilk became one of my favourite albums of the 1990s. Always difficult to know why a particular album resonates at a particular time. Something about the laid back music combined with the dark but sometimes whimsical lyrics. Also, because this was their first album, I think it has a certain energy about it that is appealing.

Appreciate the suggestion SH! Ty :)

Probably something to do with Electronic Renaissance :) that song's brilliant. Also, most bands struggle for years for a line as good as "family's like a loaded gun, point it in the wrong direction, someone's going to get killed", Belle and Sebastian nailed it on their first album.

Try "The State I Am In" off the same album. Love the buildup in the arrangement and the tweaked lyrics. Great band. Deep catalogue.

This was the start of something immense. What an album.

Man you're sending me back down a delicious memory lane with this unforgettable gem. For those who remember those days - roughly from The State that I am in to The Clientele's Suburban Light - of heavenly indie records, cheers! For those who get the pleasure to discover Tigermilk, what a treat.

Belle and Sebastian on the channel, finally! I must have suggested this band at some point in the past. This track is one of their best and this album, as others have pointed out, is one of their finest. You could do a entire album reaction. It would be awsome. You'd discover that B&S is a really fantastic band, with many great albums. For an isolated song reaction, I'd go with Lazy Line Painter Jane. And I have to agree with your observations about the synth sound. A deliberately and interesting retro sound, reminiscent of the 1980s. Thanks for the reaction!

You should try Camera Obscura - a Scottish retro band

I saw them at the House of Blues in Orlando probably 10 years ago. Still one of the best shows I've ever seen.

When I try to define what is pop music, Belle & Sebastian is one of the first names that comes to my mind. It must have a sense of sunshine in it, I don't know why. In the sound, at least. Over here, in Portugal, in the eighties there was a perfect match for this, and they were called Radar Kadafi.

Have really liked this band since first hearing them in about 2000. A little too twee (as the kids say) for me is a common criticism I hear about their sound, but I really dig them lyrically, melodically and the male/female vocal interplay they often use. Nice upload.

Really appreciate you're getting to Belle & Sebastion. So many great tracks to one day explore more of - please). They are pop geniuses. Also, their side project 'God Help The Girl' is great (sadly, only one album (the one with the black & while photo) - not to be confused with the later (inferior) soundtrack album).

Fine chamber pop. I have a soft spot for B&S, particularly their first handful of albums. I also had a boyfriend who developed a crush on the female narrator of this track. Based purely on her Scottish accent. I wasn't with him for long. (Probably because I don't have a Scottish accent.)

Glad you are giving them a try. My favourite - though I like many of their songs - is Lazy Painter Jane. Anyone agree?

Belle and Sebastian are still producing their own special brand of dream pop with their 12th album 'Late Developers' arriving released in January of this year. Nice to seem them featured on the channel.

Great track by b&S . Love there 1st 3 albums. Can anyone hear ‘Roadrunner’ by the Modern Lovers….the guitar rhythm that runs through the song?

I love your absolutely wild variation of music genres and bands on your channel! So many of them really good too. Other classic and fantastic Belle and Sebastian tracks that you might enjoy include Dog on Wheels, La Pastie de la Bourgeoisie, Waiting for the Moon to Rise, This is just a Modern Rock Song, Slow Graffiti, Like Dylan in the Movies, Legal Man and so many more. I recently read former B&S member Stuart David's book about the band's formative years, In the Late Night Cafe. A really sweet read. Cheers!

Cool track. Never heard of them, but sounds like it could have gotten radio play in its day. Lots of retro reverb, love it. Quirky synth fills, dreamy vocals. Almost a little like a lighter Robyn Hitchcock track.

Justin, you should check out the B&S song "Judy and the Dream of Horses" - it's very different than this, and it will make you smile. I know this, because it makes me smile every time I hear it. Cheers!

I own just the catastrophy waitress album, which was produced by one certain Trevor Horn. I don't see much difference to this song here. Don't you think that is has some Eno-esque playing in the background?

innofensive pop froth that went on maybe a min or two too long... Reminded me of The Woodentops. And I mean the band, not the flower pot men... And by flower pot men I mean Bill and Ben (puppets), who's vocal stylings were a joy to behold. And not the two bands with the same moniker.
