The secret roll out worked. I was totally surprised when this popped up on my feed last week. If you’re feeling sinister and Tiger Milk are two of of my all time favorite albums. They were both twee, 60s style, chamber-pop masterpieces I used to play on my college radio show on Radio 1190 Boulder, CO in the 90s. It wasn’t until the 20-teens that I finally got to see them at Redrocks. One of the best shows of my life! Belle and Sebastian have evolved over the years, but they remain excellent. As of this song, they’ve progressed all the way forward in time-up to the 1980s. 😂 This song’s production sounds just like a Jupiter 8 synth. I’m curious, was it?

I love the pop/dance aspects of their recent studio albums. Songs like Prophets on Hold, Sister Buddha, The Girl Doesn't Get It and Play for Today are among my favourite. They still feel genuine and instantly recognisable as B&S. But this seems too generic, like any processed pop band could have made it.

Such a super dancy tune.. really great to have some new tunes from you B&S. BUT THE VIDEO. I have Lyme/ME too and can understand parts of this.. but still Stuart. Why?! Was that what you were referencing? There are so many other amazing things you could've filmed.. but the plastic bag is just upsetting and I think it might be a mistake. I say this as a never-not-gonna-be-a-Belle-&-Sebastian-fan...but this is bland. It's got that OneRepublic / Fall Out Boy / Imagine Dragons kinda feel, but with more synths and less umph. I'm not sure what to make of this, but unlike "Talk To Me, Talk To Me" or "Unnecessary Drama" from the last album, this feels like what makes B&S has been stripped down into an attempt to write a hit. I realize that bands want to expand and try new things creatively, but I feel the pop-synth thing is not their thing. I don't expect every album to sound like their old chamber pop, but it feels like they're trying to hard with something that isn't them. There's no character in this track. Not B&S character, at least. Anyways, I'm an old crusty guy so who cares what I think. 🤣

I understand that bands evolve, but I miss the Belle and Sebastian of old. Those first few albums were instant classics that felt like a favorite sweater, close and intimate, whenever you put them on. Each Belle and Sebastian song used to feel like something special. A friend whispering their secrets on a rainy afternoon. I'm not sure what this is, but it ain't that. I don't listen to Belle and Sebastian for synthesizers. Other bands scratch that itch. This is just disappointing.

@@razorio007 bands like this are artistic creators first and foremost, maybe they wanted to try something new/different instead of going on decade-3 of folksy bedroom intimacy. Safe to say they've mastered and perfected that better than almost anyone else. But, to be fair, it's just my two cents and not saying that you're wrong in your opinion of disliking the new movement. That's perfectly within your right as a fan, of course. I don't know :)

@@dpodson Word. Just that the bands seem to 'evolve' in the same way, first add some electronics and then carpet bomb us with a boat load of Techno. I'd rather they put out a Norwegian Black Metal album or some Amazonian Tribal Dance music. Really take us for a really good interesting ride. Instead its like if Bob Ross started painting with crayons instead of oil paints, the composition might be on point but it just kinda looks weird....or not weird enough??

It's rare that I comment on music videos anymore but I found the taped plastic bag on his head a very disturbing and unnecessary choice. I felt like it had no connection to the song, or poppy tone. If you want to reference dying/self hatred/ feeling like you're suffocating etc it doesn't automatically have to be so graphic. This single doesn't do it for me anyway, but definitely won't be watching this video again.
