I enjoyed this, so I both liked & subscribed. One day I will make it as far to the mainland USA, Mexico & Canada & the Caribbean as there are many countries in the region that I would love to visit ❗I have been to Hawai'i (Oahu & The Big Island) in June 1999, but it is a very long trip from Australia❗ (10 ½ + hours❗) At age 58, I am very close to retiring for good ❗There is apparently another geographic center located near Lebanon, Kansas, but that other location near Lebanon, Kansas is only the geographic centrr of the lower 48 states on the Mainland USA 🇺🇸 .

I wish that museum would appear on TV and movies. I've seen the four corners monument on Disney Channel but I haven't the Geo center monument yet.

There is a sign on the 44 just east of Tulsa OK that says the same thing. Funny how South Dakota seems too far north and Tulsa seems too far south to be the center.
@terrynixon81525 жыл бұрын
Don't know how Tulsa got into it, but in 1918, the geographic center of the lower 48 was guesstimated to be just outside Lebanon, KS, 12 miles south of the KS/NE border. But they acknowledge it was hard to be accurate.

Well done indeed, save for the fact that it's not the center of the USA, that's somewhere on the Nebraska/Kansas border. It's not even close in fact, what are they smokin up there ?

After looking at the map, I do not understand how a town in S. Dakota can be the center point of the U.S. I see what happened, S. Dakota ALSO took into account, Hawaii and Alaska (which makes no sense to me). Looking at a map of the lower 48, S. Dakota doesn't even come close as the real center. For accuracy, I do not think one can just add in Alaska or Hawaii..... It seems the center point should be or was in Kansas. Hmmmm. Going to have to look up geographical center of the U.S. (lower 48). It says the geographic center of the 48 contiguous or conterminous United States, determined in a 1918 survey, is located at 39°50′N 98°35′W, about 2.6 miles (4.2 km) northwest of the center of Lebanon, Kansas, approximately 12 miles (19 km) south of the Kansas-Nebraska border.
@thomashanlon90915 жыл бұрын
When we went there a few years ago, the museum showed us a paper explaining that the actual center is 11 miles North on private land. You can not go there. They should explain that to everyone. Guess it would upset many people and hurt business.
@outskirtsofsuburbia5 жыл бұрын
thomas hanlon the “True Geographic Center of the US” is north of town and down a 7 mile dirt road. It is out in a field and is open to the public.
