U-Matic tape containing footage shot at the Belle Isle Zoo on May 1, 1990, its first day of operation of the year. The tape features shots of visitors on the zoo's walkways, the Mexican wolves, grey kangaroos, Darlene Hicks Jackson from the video crew walking about and looking at displays, a duck, parrots, a child standing beside the zoo's fence, a docent speaking to children in front of the ape habitat, Jackson wishing the zoo a happy tenth birthday from the moon-shaped cut out near the zoo's entrance, and zoo director Khadejah Shelby providing some basic details about the zoo from the same location.
The video is on a 3M UCA-10 U-Matic tape with a handwritten City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label on its top. The tape is housed in a black plastic latching case with a 3M label on its cover.
