I haven’t pursued this idea any further. I ended up making a belt squat platform with a built in footplate instead.

For the crossover with the pulleys, I think the cable end is routed through the pulleys, and not a separate cable that's attached, right?

No. I ended up modifying the design and added the foot stopper onto the belt squat platform.
