I find a beggar costs almost exactly the same as a regular townie. I couldn't see the benefit of taking on someone like that. I do agree though, it really SHOULD be a much lower cost for Beggars... they can't be choosers after all and SHOULD work for you for less. Currently my regular apprentice carpenter or other trade costs around 4521 with decent 4-8 stat peaks, and the beggar is around 4,400 with caps around 1 or 2. Their costs therefore, at least currently, scale the same way as normal villagers.... that makes me sad :(

For you that's certainly not much difference indeed. Also, tested in Raid 8 last night, my Beggar in all hand-me-down Armor/Weapons did just fine, barely took any damage.

@@delindsay I managed to get myself a skill 20 settler - literally 20 in every skill with a cap of 0... very odd 20/0 is how it looks. It was a quest reward which I'm sure you'll get to at some stage soon. You can tell this level is VERY powerful. With 20 Agility they can keep up with me while I'm sprinting in armour. But I don't see much different between 1 and 2 for example. I think the biggest different is getting through next tier level armour with a lower tier weapon, that seems to be somewhat offset by strength. I hired the beggar and noticed the next villager cost increased by about the same as if I had hired an apprentice tradesperson. I think the best advice would be to get some decent folks who can help with your farming or deliveries which is a big bottleneck too. I just wish Beggars were cheaper and remained cheap... I can imagine a bunch of beggars doing my delivery work.

@@HighlanderMisfits Holy crap, that's sweet! As for 1 or 2 Str, the difference is wielding superior Weapons but Shield only needs 1. For me personally, I try and get Beggars that have 2 Str (mainly for a little more HP) 1-2 Agi (so they can use a Bow) then 2 Archery. 1H & 2H I don't care as much about. You do make a good point about superior stat regular NPC's that don't cost too much more. I think Beggars, while still the cheapest, should cost half of the lowest cost (usually friendly Rep) NPC's.

my beggars are like 400 and everyone else it 800+ but i am pretty early and only have 5 villagers

@@zeonos I saw that as well early on, but now that I have ~14 Villagers between my main Town and 2 Outposts the gap has closed somewhat. It's still ~300 Renown cheaper though.

Just bought Bellwright and discovered your videos. Great stuff so far, the outpost guide was outstanding. I am guessing the option to disable outpost raids was not in-game 7 months ago? Do you disable them now? I usually leave outpost raids off for a bit and toggle it on when desired.

It was, and I mentioned it in the video. I said you could turn down the frequency (just didn't state all the way to off). And yes, at some point I just turned off Raids.

As the beggars level up you will get credit for it.. Once you're ready, you can exchange them for higher level villagers with a little extra added or even for a profit in hiring power in some cases.

This is a "hidden" bonus for Beggars, but cheap sell high (later).

A thing that could be fun or at least interesting is that some books could upgrade your level cap. So begger, with effort, could became just as descent as other villager. This would be grindy, but would be interesting as a chalenge run.

100% correct, short of the Debuff they come with, but most of it is work related not Combat.

problem with assigning someone to work as a guard is when they get hungry they stop being a guard and get food and then go back to becoming a worker... then ill have to assign him back again... hassle.

It's a minor issue but yes they do that. In the future, hopefully the Devs change it so the actually feed themselves.

It works great for me and I've had them survive a Bandit attack no worse off than regular Villagers (properly equipped ofc).

@delindsay I don't know why I always feel like I need to be present at every raid. Sometimes, maybe. But not every time, especially with the new Militia mechanics. 👌🏼 Good stuff!

I saw someone say the beggers are good for deliveries too. Not sure if its correct or not. Testing it out now.

No reason to use villagers for deliveries. It's all completely automated

Ludimire is not the same everytime. He is random high stats. Cept cooking so far. I have tested this. Second just switch your new followers to full passive and make sure they don't have any weapons. Easy once you unlock gear sets. No weapons means the bandits won't bother them. just change them to worker and leave. They will beeline it to your outpost/village you assign them to. If your really desperate run to the outpost then switch them to companion again and they'll run to you. Third. I wouldn't get the beggers less you absolutely need to. They tend to die, I mean full die in fights. Waste of renown. Imo. Ludimire plus you can handle most raids early on. 😅

They cost so much renown with 0 skill while there are some villagers who have some skills. I usually give them books and send them to cook, craft, construction. 😅😅

Less is less but yes, they still cost too much for what you get in return. I'd like to see the Devs reduce Beggars to 1/2 the Renown of the lowest Tier Villager (usually the ones requiring Friend and only have like 2/3's Stat wise.

I used mine in Raid #8 with him having ZERO Stats, no Shield and he didn't die. So yeah, they can definitely help.

Beggar cost me 6k renome middle class cost me 7k+ and the minimum require to wielding a sword is 3 strength which Beggars can never reach. The true tips: never hire beggars for god sake you want someone with higher potential so he can still be useful later on.

Just so you know, you can "fire" any of your Villagers later on and get an at-level amount of Renown back. Meaning if Beggars cost 6K to you (means you have like ~40 total Villagers) then had you bought them early on for say 600 Renown, you could've made a hefty profit off them later. And I'm guessing you didn't get the true point of the video. Beggars as great as GUARDS, never said they were great for your ARMY (they're decent though). Having an active Guard reduces the frequency of Raids, for those who don't want to just turn them off completely.

Okay, how ever u want to play it. U want to get raided as little as possible, there is option to turn raid off, just turn it on later when u farmed enough

Unless you find the perfect sweet spot with all resources readily available, outpost is def needed. Or you would prefer to get the resources yourself then it's another story
