You two are a good laugh :-) . Not seen that before, (obviously illegal for flight shooting), but interesting. (Yes I've stuck an arrow into the belly of a flight bow... very exciting in the trouser department).

Thanks, glad you like it. Not surprised, not many people have experience with genuine Victorian (and ealrier) bows so they havent seen these sorts of things, hence making a few videos on our collection over the years on the channel.

Done that broken arrow thing; bow flew out of my hand onto the ground and found the tail end of a bamboo arrow protruding from my bow hand. Last sliver of bamboo popped out a week later. Exciting times!

Perhaps during the making of a new yew bow, the belly wedge could be pre formed into the handle? Obviously, this assumes that clout shooting would be the owners pastime, but being a permanent feature of the handle shape wouldn’t disrupt other forms of shooting would it? I suppose it might make the traditional sleek lines of the English long bow a bit awkward, but it’s just a thought 🤷🏻‍♂️😉

welcome to Longbow archery. Yes, we always make arrows for newcomers a couple of inches longer than needed. This allows for your style to settle and for any breakages of the pile from missing the target.
