*Today's Class: Shimmy Flutter vs. Belly Accents*
*Shimmy Flutter:*
- *Diaphragm Control:* The flutter is created by rapid diaphragm movement, not just abdominal muscles. Use quick, sharp breaths to engage the diaphragm, causing a fluttering effect in the belly.
Once comfortable with the breathing practice, try to isolate the fluttering motion without full breaths. Practice "panting" like a dog, which engages the diaphragm. This quick in-and-out breath helps to create the fluttering sensation.
- *Posture:* Stand with feet hip-width apart, knees slightly bent, and pelvis in a neutral position. Keep your chest lifted and shoulders relaxed.
- *Relaxation & Control:* Focus on relaxing the abdominal area to maintain a smooth, consistent flutter. Avoid tensing the belly; the motion should look effortless.
*Belly Accents:*
- *Posture:* Stand upright, with feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent. Maintain a neutral pelvis and engage your core muscles by gently pulling your belly button toward your spine.
- *Upper & Lower Ab Contractions:*
- *Upper Abs:* Use the rectus abdominis to create sharp contractions, pulling the upper abdomen inward and outward.
- *Lower Abs:* Contract the lower abdominal muscles to pull the lower belly in and slightly tilt the pelvis forward.
- *Pelvic Tilts:* Perform subtle anterior and posterior tilts using the pelvic and lower abdominal muscles for clear, pronounced accents.
*Practice Tips:*
- Isolate each movement, focusing on muscle control. Start slowly, then gradually increase speed. Avoid using momentum or large movements, and keep breathing normally. Practice in front of a mirror to ensure precision and proper form.
