WE WERE JUST SPEAKING OF THIS GREAT PLACE TODAY AND HOW MUCH FUN WE USED TO HAVE. THOUGH LA RONDE REPLACED IT BELMONT PARK WILL STILL BE MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE PLACES AS A KID. THE VERY FIRST THING WE WERE AWARE OF WAS THE AMAZING AROMA OF QUEBEC FRIES AND HOT DOGS. NO FRIES ON THIS PLANET CAN COME CLOSE TO THEM. I REMEMBER MY FIRST RIDE ON THE "CYCLONE" WITH MY MOM, I WAS ONLY ABOUT 7 OR 8 BUT I CAN STILL FEEL MY TUMMY HITTING MY THROAT. THANKS FOR THIS WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE. WITH ALL SAD HAPPENINGS IN THIS CURRENT WORLD, WE ALL NEED THIS ESPECIALLY AT 71, MY AGE!!

Grew up in Carterville in the 50s and 60s and went to Belmont park often. 10 cents per ride , a whole day of fun for a buck. Got sick on the Cyclone once and threw up when the operator decided to run the coaster twice. Thanks for posting this.

Belmont park had an "atmosphere" and "mood". We visited from Cornwall Ontario at least twice a year. When it switched to La Ronde - we went once and never went back. Just wasn't the same somehow....

Wow! ;-)

I’ve spent many times at Belmont park as a child and teenager till they closed. The last time I had a ride on that roller coaster I was not sure if I was going to get out alive on the weekend that one of the rides fell apart and it was not long after it closed. Some good memories at that park.

Dan Perlman I always felt it was going off the track ,then it made that sharp turn. Scared me so much that I just had to go on again. That and the roller coaster. I was sad when it closed. I always preferred it to La Ronde . Belmont park fit in the small town feel of Montréal.

Going to Belmont Park in the 60s I remember the "Whip", the "Wild Mouse', the roller coaster (I think it was called the "Cyclone") The "Laughing Lady" was always unsettling when I was a kid and I would run past her as a fast as I could. As a kid I remember that It was a long car ride to get there from Ville LaSalle before the Decarie was built.

Yes. If our instances had respected themselves, they would have required everything to be in French. Unfortunately, in the era, French people were so unducated, that they had no confidence in themselves. Good thing things have changed.

It's too bad that nationalist extremists turn people's beautiful memories of a carefree past into an ugly language war. This is an amusement park, not a politicized language battlefield. It must be horrible going through your life filled with so much hate because some of your neighbors have a different language, religion, or race than your own. It's very sad that these types of inferiority complexes are still so prominent in Quebec. It makes me embarrassed to be a Quebecker.

Guy Souriandt It is so true, I totally agree! The more languages you have the better it is. Myself I can manage four! It should have been in both French and English back in those days but it wasn't... What can you do! Politics were different back then but we should all be proud to be Canadian whatever you got french or english background!

I went there with french speaking friends and parents so many times, no one ever complained about english signs, it was the 60-70s, by the mid 70s, many french kids including me, were asking our parents to go to english school and glad we did...
