to be fair, even if he did tell him "coming back alive is enough" in the actual show it probably would've been a minipulation tactic. like one that abusive parents use, they'll bring you down emotionally for years and years then out of the blue start showing affection, it would be enough for Hunter to want to work harder even if he's already doing his best but also used as a fail-safe, that way if someone says "Belos is a horrible person" Hunter would say "No he actually loves and cares about me"
