IMPORTANT: This project had admittedly been in a bit of a development hell due to its length, and all of us lost motivation before we could complete its visuals. But we don't want to let it just never see the light of day either, and since the song itself is complete, we decided to publish what we've done for it! Even in its incomplete state, I do hope y'all will enjoy the video all the same ^w^ Note: The track itself has been finished since December of last year, meaning that it actually came before Sky After Rain and Storm Before Dawn, so if the song feels like it has less quality compared to those two that's why ^^;

AHHHHHH! I am shaking and banging my desk at this, what the actual hell, this is INCREDIBLE!!!! My HEART!!! AAAARGH! The ART! The VOCALS! It is SO GOOD! Leif’s story is so tragic-to this day it’s one of my favorite pieces of video game storytelling, and I think that’s because of how it sets up its two main punches. Leif gets a huge gut punch right off the bat in the early game with the time passage and the realization that the world has moved on without him. He’ll never get the chance to apologize to Muse, he’ll never be able to buy his mom that dream catcher she wanted, he’ll never see his queen again, and THEN. After you slowly learn more about the life he left behind, the people he lost, the world he misses, THEN you get to the lab. He learns that the love he feels, the regrets he has, the life he misses-pieces of his character that the player is at this point incredibly invested in and which are so integral to the mystery that’s been set up-none of it was HIS in the first place. HE isn’t Leif. He is an artificial thing, a thing that was created by immoral, reprehensible people, a thing that, by sheer coincidence, found the body of Leif and assumed his identity. You’d think this would shut him down, kill his spirit, but no. Despite the horrible truth, despite being “but some thing that thinks it is him”, Leif still holds on to the love and the dreams that were cut short by his predecessor. Leif’s family is still HIS family, and he wants to make things right with them. Even though he’s not Leif, he’s…Leif. That part of the game was so beautiful to me, it gives me real “Despite everything, it’s still you” vibes. One of the gaming moments of all time. I still think about it years after playing the game for the first time. All that to say, I love this portrayal of his story SO much, AMAZING job to all of the people who worked on this. Pinpin Neon, you always do amazing work (I listen to your Watcher/Cordyceps mix all the time) but you have outdone yourself with this one. Excuse me for the essay, but MAN did this give me an emotion lol

I have to say the harmonization for this one is probably of the best you've done so far! That opening was absolutely fantastic. Still mixed feelings of SOLARIA's higher range voice but I'm also extremely picky with vocals so take that with a grain of salt (I do really love the mid-range segments though, especially 2:45 to the end). Was that a tribute to the "The Lab Over Snakemouth" at the start, 0:51, and 2:45 as well? Touching a bit on the animations since they're unfinished. Where they are unfinished funnily enough actually works for the most part. If "The Other One" is referenced in here somewhere as well I wouldn't be surprised. Great work here again!

Also should mention all the ambience sounds (wind at the start(?), glass shatter, and water(?)) are all pretty neat effects to tie the animation to the actual audio.

my god, leif's story is sad, (SPOILERS) forgetting who you were only to find out your just a zombie that was just reanimated by a failed fungi test experiment, and that 'your' memories did not even belong to you. It really sucks hearing that.

Not sure if it was intentional, but this has some very similar melodies to “I’m With You” from Sonic Frontiers. Which works because it’s equally as beautiful Similarities aside, this is a very good original song for Leif. Represents his character and story extremely well

This is so masterful! I like how you used Leif’s theme, the lyrics fit him well, and the song feels like a cold galaxy- like I’m looking into Leif’s very soul. Also, was a reference to “I’m With You” from Sonic Frontiers intended? Update: I later realized that part of “The One Left Behind” sounds like it.

actual analysis - melody is simple but effective, and the chord progressions support it well - vocals are very well done, but the syllable phrasing feels off at places - instrumentation is great, i especially like the guitar coming in after the vocals - samples like water drops and glass breaking are a great touch even if it's not finished, i'm glad this could be released in some form
