If you'd listen to the story you'd realize that these are extremely endangered birds and hadn't been seen in Chicago since the 1950's. So, yeah, it is very special and what's also special is that the people of Chicago, or I should probably say the "Birders" and anyone who appreciates wildlife and other species, protected this beach or area of the beach for these birds so that they could survive. So that's also quite special! So just because the bird was free doesn't mean it will always be around. As I understand it, Monty was only 5 yrs. old so he wasn't "around" long, was he. He made the flight from Texas and had just recently arrived to meet his mate, Rose. Last I heard Rose didn't show up so hopefully she's OK. Very sad that Monty died at such a young age. Anyway, your comment was pretty cold, esp. since many people in that area loved Monty and Rose. I am from MA myself and I happened upon this story of Monty dying and many people loved him so I looked into it more. Maybe you should have done the same before you made your cold and mean comment. Obviously you don't care much about wildlife and all they struggle with just to survive each day which is getting harder and harder for them every year, or every day. Well, one day it will be humans that are struggling to survive when climate change really starts affecting the whole world.We are dooming future generations of all species because some ppl are just plain ignorant and SELFISH!

dont you have more important things to focus on? these birds are super endangered and havent been seen in chicago for 70 years. and now monty died from a disease and is in a better place. i am a birder myself and i recently saw the new 3 piping plover chicks released on the beach. they were CUTE AS HECK!! if i was driving my car and a piping plover suddenly came out of nowhere walking across the road, id rather brake really hard or swerve into a ditch and risk getting killed then killing a endangered bird. this is a really mean comment.
