I can't overstate what a privilege it has been so far to witness the re-building of Tally-Ho. When I first got hooked on this series, I took for granted what I was seeing, but gradually, I realised this isn't like any other boat building KZbin series, slapped together from discarded pallet wood, oh no. Tally-Ho is the Rolls-Royce of KZbinr built sailing yachts.

People like to comment that she's not the same boat, that it's basically a new build etc. but honestly, this is how you re-build a boat in that sort of condition properly. There's no patching on Tally Ho, no "good enough" and nothing done to just get it floating, this is how it should be
@Jason_xofilos8 ай бұрын
I was about to comment the same so I will just say I concur. 👍 Absolutely looking gorgeous and see Tally Ho come alive again into a working sailing vessel has been a privilege especially watching all the artisans, craft folks, and technicians helping work on the Tally Ho.

@@helplmchoking In fairness, Leo originally set out to reuse as much of the old boat as possible. His initial estimation of her condition was not thorough enough, because, as we know, it became clear that very little of her was salvageable some episodes in. Leo and the team has done a remarkable job at keeping her hull and rig as close to the original drawings, so while it may not be the same boat, it certainly has the same soul.

IMO, one of Leo's greatest strengths is team building. When I came on for the 2nd framing party, I had carpentry experience... in a theater. I could make things look great... from 15ft away. I wasn't the only one on that team with little to no wooden boat experience, but Leo essentially built an entire system using methods we could all understand to achieve incredibly tight tolerances, far beyond anything I had thought I could do on my own. His ability to balance big-picture thinking and find detail something I hope I can someday come close to.

I just watched this episode, No. 182 posted March 2, 2024. The first episode was posted June 30, 2017. I first watched it July 21, 2017, and became a monetary supporter. Leo is nearly _SEVEN_ years into this project. It was obvious from that first video that Leo had the vision, drive, genius, skill, experience, talent, etc to see Tally Ho through to relaunch. Many people joined when I did and many joined later. The one thing that has been true from the beginning, is that the end has always been in sight; just two more years and the project will end. The Sampson Boat Co channel has been a constant joy to watch. I have received much more from Leo than I can ever repay him for. Thank you to the entire crew, past and present.

Amen Brother! I started watching him early on and got my oldest son (now 53) watching him. It has been simply amazing the passion and foresight he had when he decided to do this project! I always loved his desire to keep everything original that he could unless it hindered function or safety standards he wanted to hold. It will be awesome to see the long term affect he has had on those passing through his shop and spending time on this project. I have also loved every minute of his quality of work ethics, his dedication and focus on his work, his ability to inspire those helping him, and not lowering his standards for excellence even when he was tight on funds. You knew you were investing in something of significant historical value that should someday be a showpiece of maritime drive to prove you can resurrect an historical vessel and totally redo it down to the bones and gut of the ship and bring it back to superior standards of not just quality but to standards of excellence in re-design, engineering soundness, and sea worthiness without compromise. People will invest in the type of vision and ability that he not only talked about but put his money and hard work into to show how committed he was to doing what he said. After a few videos it was very apparent that he was going to do what he said!

I would probably swoon, if I was able to see her in person. I was about to say something stupid like, "You are one lucky guy" but no, you have put your heart and soul into her over the past ? six years. From the beginning, I was amazed at your willingness to push ahead, dive in and never be swayed by the enormity of the project (the keel!) or the challenges put in your path. So when Tally Ho got evicted from the original place of rebirth, there was a lot of angst. However the silver lining of transferring to Port Townsend, has enabled this Project to highlight the breadth and depth of Trades and Artisans that exist in and around this Maritime Community and shine a light on the possibilities that anyone seeking repair, restoration or upgrade to their own marine based project should consider and utilise. Port Townsend is a centre of excellence. Take a Bow everyone involved. That now includes Mya, Golden Hour Leather, Alice the Stain Glass, to the long list of Boat Builders, Riggers, Mechanics, Electricians et al. All making Local, but now known Global...... This is the Gift that Tally Ho and Leo have created.
@nesdonbooth97268 ай бұрын
True, it's great to see that community get so much support and reputation. I've wondered if Carol Hasse is building Tally Ho's sails. She sails a Folkboat which must warm Leo's heart having made a transatlantic in one of his own. Two other KZbin boat builders have made what seem like odd choices, Redivia has vertical cut cotton sails, and Arrabella has a track and modern sailcolth. On Tally Ho, with the served stays and shrouds, and wooden blocks, (both wisely equipped with hidden modern synthetics in their functional guts) as well as the ash hoops, she still has a very traditional look. I hope Leo opts for a three-strand rope like Hempex for the running rigging. I love the look of and function of 3 strand splices which would help keep the rig looking classic. Also hope he opts for cream-color dyed soft-finsh sailcoth like Contender Oceanus. I suspect these decisons have already been made, and i look forward to seeing the rest of the rig come together

One of the things that I love so much about this project isn't talked about very often (and I think it should be). Tally Ho has been a real opportunity for a younger generation of not only viewers but a huge list of craftspeople to see the incredible artistry and craftsmanship of heritage boat building. I think about all of the younger folks from the foundry, to the sail makers, the boatbuilding school, upholsterers... floating around the backgrounds of the shots working with some incredible elders as they learn their craft. I think of Patty "kinda knowing some woodworking" (and so many others) when they joined the project who now have legit industry experience. Tally Ho and Leo's passion project has really served a valuable purpose. I like the idea that my family's donations here and there aren't just "building a boat for Leo". They are employing hundreds of people, many in a new generation, on an incredible project that the world gets to watch in a fairly new way. I hope Leo points out at some point the enormous ecosystem of people, many from a new generation, who have earned a living and gained rare experience on the project. It's the big reason I and other patrons I know have been so happy to support. My best to you all.

I sure hope Tally Ho actually floats when she’s launched. This has got to be one of the most overbuilt vessels ever constructed. Seriously, the amount of top quality materials combined with amazing craftsmanship that has gone into the boat is astounding. I’m so glad I found this channel. It has given me hours upon hours of pleasure to watch over the past few years.

I think this is the first time we're really seeing a glimpse at the final product! Unbelievable that you've managed to bring together all these amazing people and make all this happen Leo. Tally Ho looks gorgeous!

Beautiful work beautiful Maya! The interior is getting 1000% beautiful details.(65,933 views in three hours, hi everyone!). I'm so gobsmacked seeing so much finished. I'm a Union and Hobby Carpenter so this has all been soul touching to watch. I also do stained glass so that part of this episode was an added bonus, I have been watching since the very first episode because frankly it was a sort of impossible train wreck in the beginning. I have tears in my eyes right now. As with some of my own projects there is going to be a happy-sadness when this comes to an end. I will see her in person I hope before I die as well, it will be like a pilgrim to Mecca for me. The viewers like me get so much out of watching Leo, more than you will ever know, Thank you and all the team, without contributions like yours this project would not be possible!

Glad to see I am not the only one who makes watching a new video a highlight of my weekend. Over 150,000 in only 8 hours show there are a lot of people that do the same

Elaina and Rieley would approve, Errr actually maybe you are the inspiration for their sixty foot rapido trimaran recently launched there in Vietnam. Yea I would like to think that you are inspirational for LaVagabond. The boat is yellow! Lots of non boat interior design. It is big and fast and carries their two young sons along with them. Course not a wood based boat. Carbon fiber Leo, You know that's the new thing. Which actually makes Tally Ho more unique, more of a gem, a diamond really. The one and only. Very much from back in the day. Whoosh. So Sweet!

Watching you standing in that beautiful saloon area all I could think of was the first time you climbed into tally ho's empty hull with a head full of dreams of what she could become and watching you and the team bring those dreams to reality has been amazing Leo

Anyone who sees Tally Ho will learn the meaning of craftmanship. Each of your team is a wizzard. I have been building things all my lifeand can hear your amazement at what the team has accomplished. I am excited for your adventures with this work of art called a boat. Well Done and congratulations on the fruition of a vision. I suspect you are almost as amazed at the results as we are. Your group has created a treasure.

Wow. Spectacular work by all. The standard of the work on Tally Ho continues to be amazing, and I love seeing the evident pride in the work that is exhibited by everyone involved. This is truly a unique project. I’ve been wondering recently, given the high profile of the Tally Ho project, if there aren’t very VERY deep pocketed folks out there who would hire Leo and the crew to build them a similarly amazing, cost is no object, hand built wooden boat…. Then the question becomes: would you guys do it? I know Leo’s goal is to actually SAIL Tally Ho but damn, you guys are REALLY good at boatbuilding, and it appears you enjoy it as well right? First world problem if this becomes a decision to be made I guess. Regardless, congratulations on the progress. She looks gorgeous.

For such a (relatively)small step, the upholstery going in really makes the interior look so close to finished

It never stops amazing me how when people work together, such an awesome result takes place. Too bad people can't work together in this world to make it beautiful like Tally Ho. She certainly proves it can be done. Godspeed Tally Ho!

So far I have watched all the jokes about the "saga" about the construction of this beautiful yacht. I am impressed by the professionalism and great commitment of everyone who has worked with you over the years. Often as volunteers and enthusiasts. Everyone working on this project and we watching it feel that a great thing is being created. Full of the spirit given to her by thousands of people who watch each episode with passion and by everyone who directly builds and supports the construction of Tally. Greetings from Poland and "fingers crossed" Good Luck.

Loving the liquor locker, it looks lush. I like the liquor locker light a lot. It might be lacking in size because the area isn’t very large so liquor won’t be limitless but if the liquor locker locks it will stop larcenous behaviour. Lastly the workmanship lovingly lavished on the liquor locker is laudable!

Sometimes when I wait for a new episode of Tally Ho to come out and watch it, I happen to have a not so good day, but the very thought that moments will follow when I will quietly and with great joy look at the new achievements of the wonderful crew of Tally Ho calms me down and makes me feel relaxed. After watching today's episode and with every moment I saw how Tally Ho takes shape and shape in the details, simply, for no particular reason of course, I felt very proud of these wonderful achievements. Thank you guys!

Saltheart I’m sure you reflect from time to time. Go back to the first few videos. See where you started and where you are now. Amazing progress. A lot of good people. You, the crew, and the boat have gone through an epic metamorphosis. Goofy British guy with a wrecked boat and a video camera. This journey, just really starting, is so very special. Thank you for taking us along.
