I’ve been a bilateral lower limb amputee since just before my 2nd bday and now I’m 40. I’ve had so many legs in every stage of life. I agree with making sure to take a few weeks on the check socket. It’s so much easier to make those adjustments. I too have elevator suction which definitely takes work for my prosthetist to get insurance to cover but it’s all I’ve had since 2012. I’m not sure if you ever do any of your own adjustments but I had a similar bottoming out in my socket and added a pad right where my knee meets the top of the socket and it improved things greatly. I did go to my provider to get the padding. I used to make KZbin videos on being an amputee and still do every so often. Happy to chat if you have questions!! Best of luck with the upcoming test socket.

Thank you so much! I have thought about adjusting my socket but they scare you by saying it voids the warranty. And I’m scared to screw it up. But I might need to trust myself a little more in this area.

@ for sure. I usually use a double sided tape (typically for carpets). And they definitely use that tactic to avoid anyone doing their own adjustments or inserts. Unfortunately, after typically 90 days the warranties are up on most parts & features. Which isn’t ideal either. In my experience once my insurance has paid for a set of prosthetics my prosthetist does any repairs/adjustments as that cost is rolled in into the total cost. Not sure if that is how it is for where you are going. Wishing you all the best with the next test socket for a better fit!

I have a boa door on the back, so I loosen it to get my leg on because my stump is bigger on the bottom and it really really helped me. It's just a door on the back not an actual boa system, i still use a seal in liner and it works great!

@@ElectiveAmputation nope, my prostitist uses special scissors because it's so strong, however I am in canada and I don't know if the material varies country to country

Try a elavated socket. At my last appr was told it is still the most advanced at the time. Take to your prosthetic com. My insurance company paid for mine. Just for your info just returned from an afican indian ocean cruise. No issues being an amputee.

@ElectiveAmputation if you have a pin your not. A vacaum is above the suction please inquire about one. Went on several walks/hikes on last cruise no issues at all. Hop on and stay safe

@ElectiveAmputation hey there once again. Talk to your prosthetic company about elavated vacuam. It is what i have. According to my prosthetic company nothing is better than it.

Honestly, this is why prosthetists do test sockets for a minimum of several weeks before laminating a final socket. Testing a socket for only a day or a week isn’t nearly sufficient enough. As for the socks, that’s what “shorties” are for. I’ve had to cut the tops off my socks for a similar reason as you. As far as boa systems, they only eliminate up to 6-ply worth of socks. Sure, that’s still 6-ply, but when you’re talking about double-digit ply, it doesn’t help a whole lot. I’m surprised you have such an issue with two hours each way, especially given that you’re about to embark on a ton of travel. 😂 Seriously, though, I used to commute two hours each way every day for work-including while pregnant and with a toddler and school-aged kid. It’s not so bad, really. 😊

@@Khrystyanyea the travel is bad only because I have no one to drop off or pick up kids. So I have only between 10am-1pm at the prosthetist. That’s not enough time. I have always taken my test socket home for months. I was surprised when he said no I can’t take it home. That it’s not safe. But i definitely am this time!

I am a bilateral below knee amputee. I've never had a prosthetist let me wear a check socket for more than a few days. I wish it had been longer, I can see the benefit of a longer trial. Although I recently had a new pair of legs made (last July) and have had no fit issues thus far.
