I have the utmost respect and admiration for you. Your attitude and determination to move forward under so much pressure and responsibility when you probably feel like crying instead is heroic. The gift you give to others is huge but the gift you give to your children is priceless. I pray that your burdens will soon be lifted.

Have you considered osseintegration? You have a surgery to put an implant in your bone and the foot attaches to that, so then you don’t have a socket at all.
@panini42002 күн бұрын
Both sockets are suction through a one way valve. With the sealing rings the suction is only at the rings and below. With a plain cushion liner and sleeve the suction is along your leg to the top of the sleeve. Theres more surface area on your leg undergoing the negative pressure/suction

Thats the kind ive got! My liner, i actually have part of the top folded down ao the silicone shows, and the sleeve goes over that and over my skin to connect! It gives you a muuuuuch better connection! It helps me so much kuch because my limb is just skin, bone, and vascular staples. A pin system started pulling on me.
@hollandpritchett17602 күн бұрын
Tldr of how the suspension sleeve works: like your previous suction suspension prosthetic, it uses air to both hold on the prosthetic and cushion your stump. In the case of the sleeve system, some of the seal is created from the friction of the silicone (or neoprene) lining of the outer sleeve on the inner sleeve. It still overall uses suction/air for attachment, but how the air is distributed changes with the tweaks in materials. It allows for a more distributed seal compared to the ring system, helping prevent pressure points while maintaining a tighter form-factoe to your stump. Please correct me if im wrong - I'm not a prothetist, just a biomedical engineer who did my senior project on liners for prosthetics and did a quick google to remind myself of this type of socket.

Kerri, thats the same sleeve I have. WIllowWood. I have found that the most comfortable ever that I have worn, and it has only been now 1yr an a half. That is what my prosthetist started me on.Then I try some other brand call Rossum that was too tight an made me sweat profusely.

This may be a silly question but I’m guessing your limb gets really sweaty from all those layers? Does that affect the fit?

Try working at winco, the monthly is $50 for the insurance the deductible is less than $200 and the out of pocket max is $1500 you could do better then what you have right now

I think maybe you need to go in and have them measure your leg properly and get a proper measurement on your leg. That way they can assess the proper size for the prosthetic for your leg. Because clearly if they cannot figure out the proper size of a prosthetic limb for you and they're not doing their job correctly. And you should not be charged for a prosthetic limbs that do not fit you properly either.

Before I had my amputation, I was in constant pain. For the last 4 years my pain kept getting worse until I was in a wheelchair. I had to have a caregiver over for 5 hours a day to clean my house, go shopping and drive me to Dr appointments. Now, after 5 months, I am walking on my new leg without pain.

I find that even with flats, I struggle to fit/ tuck in my prosthetic foot into a shoe that used to fit me before my injury. A natural human foot is flexible, but a prosthetic foot is not.

Back in 2023 I had a blood blister on foot they told me I had two bones in my foot that was infected I asked them can they 3D me some titanium bones from my foot But they told me they didn't have the technology to do so, but back in the 2000s, there was a man in Texas that had a cancer of the heel of his foot and a friend of his made a 3D print hillbone for him and they replaced the hillbone in his foot and I cannot find that video anywhere now. I guess they make more money for us. Having our feet are limbs amputated than to fix them in the first place.

I am an amputee over 30 years . All amputees are different, so try not to give you views until 5 years later when things settle down with your stump . Good luck 👍

When making decisions like amputation, drs, prosthetists and laws, the amount of time post amputation is irrelevant. However experience is the biggest part I look forward to adding to the Amputee Q&A Guide as it happens.

First thing to do is find a great prosthetic company. Talk to other amputees. Most prosthetic companies know dr who can help you. Main thing to know is once it is gone it is not coming back.
