Below the Root (PC/DOS) 1984, Windham Classics "CGA" composite

Below the Root is an adventure game released in 1984 by Windham Classics, a division of Spinnaker Software. It is titled after Below the Root, the first of the Green Sky Trilogy of novels, written by Zilpha Keatley Snyder and published between 1975 and 1977. It is an early example of what later became known as the Metroidvania genre. The player can assume the role of one of five characters with different abilities, a member of one of two races-the Kindar or the Erdling-and attempt to settle the existing differences between the two groups.

I run into a strange bug that prevented me to proceeding any further from jumping on the vines" in the left part at temple grunds to get the required "D'ol Falla's key". I reload the earlier save game and return to "vines" and the climbing & jumping worked, but after you talk to D'Ol Falla "to get permission for the key later" and visit the Temple and talk to Raamo's mother, after that jumping on vines/climbing up wont succeed!

One of my favorite C64 games of all time. There's a map reader for the DOS version that let's you see the map data zoomed out, it's HUGE and super cool looking. Also the book trilogy is really good.

I've read about this game in Home of the Underdogs back in the early 2000's, when it was already "abandonware" - never truly went deep into it, but it seems to foreshadow many of later adventure/rpg titles.

There are some elements similar to the Saboteur game for zx spectrum. The frames / map and character movements. Saboteur dind't have the actions dough
