Simple stuff,,,,simple tools as well.. Some of these issues are factory related. When making so many machines at once, at some point there will be slight deviations. probably got worse over time is my guess. Either way,,I just luv saving these old brutes! The customer wanted a good old machine with good bones but gave my a tight budget. Thanx again Wayne,,,say hey to Jake!

This is another one of those things that helps me to always keep in mind two things. You never know who’s been in there or how much they screwed something up before you saw it. You can never assume anything actually came new from the factory correctly assembled. I strongly suspect that washer was placed on the wrong side of the pulley by either one of the preceding. Easy enough to do if you’re not paying attention to how it came apart or not following an IPL. All I can say is, smartphones are The Best! Being able to take unlimited photos and videos has been a total game changer for me. Oh, and to keep the record straight, a few months ago I replaced a washer in the wrong order on a chainsaw and struggled for days to figure out why I couldn’t get the circlip to seat into the groove. In this case even the IPL for that saw was no help and it was someone on one of the FB groups who set me straight. 😉👍🔧 Oh, also, the ancillary to those caveats - never assume NIB means the part isn’t screwed up in some way. Of course we know Dorman is renowned for this, but it can come from any source or manufacturer.

I made that washer I installed on the crank..The one I removed was for the bolt that holds the pully to the crank. The washer I made needed to have a hole the size of the crank. This drove the pully forward. As I mentioned the alternate would be to slot the motor mount holes accordingly. I need to learn to explain things better!! Sometimes I just go sooo fast and get caught up in the moment. Your absolutely right, some of this is factory issues that may have past muster initially but over time it got worse. The as you say, someone else gets to it! The customer is a fan,,he wanted something with Good Bones but didn't have a large budget. I did waaayyy more then needed on this machine, he was happy! Nice to have people appreciate things! I sometimes say,,take pics with a cell!! Some projects for me are done over time, even a year so pics are important! Just gotta luv forums tho..Not to mention youtube!

I just change both belts with new ones at the same time. If one breaks (I don't wait that long) it can take the other one off the pulley and wreck the tightener or cover.

Yea, I could have left this and moved on... Sometimes its hard to tell if something like this came this way from the factory! Could be that things just never lined up correctly from day one! The customer and I like these old machines and the idea was to save a nice old machine with Good Bones!!
