My seat drops so the hinge needs replacing. This video is for installing

The unclear illustrations on the box of my £50 Bemis seat (there were no written instructions supplied) show this plastic nut fitted on the hinge, on the bolt head on top of the pan, not under it as shown in this and another video. After about three hours trying to figure this out, I found that it served no purpose at all, but I am keeping it.
