G'day Dan. I must have missed this one. It is interesting to see the difference between the quality and content of this one from two years ago and your current videos. Thanks to your videos, I'm less than two weeks away from heading to the UK and have quite a few spots earmarked to visit while I'm there Just keeping my fingers crossed for some decent weather. 👍

Thanks very much John, I'm glad that you can see a difference in the videos I appreciate that. As for the weather in Blighty.......We've had a couple of days of sunshine so that's probably our summer finished 😂 no I hope it is nice for when you get here mate 👍🏻

Dan, a couple of tips, we go to Bempton 3 or 4 times a year, despite it being a 3.5hr drive for us, but this January we went for the shorties, alas, the week we were there, they were no where to be seen :( , so we travelled 15 minutes to South Landing (near Highcliff Manor) mid/late afternoon and got some amazing Barn Owl photos in the fields on top of the cliffs, there was a pair of them flying around, worth a try if you are blanking at Bempton, although during nesting season there are so many sea birds there it would be hard not to get something. Also, if you go to Jubilee corner and walk past it about 200 metres, and look back on the cliff top, that is where the Peregrines seem to hang out, especially when the young are starting to fledge. I managed to get some great shots of them there last June/July, worth knowing if you visit again.

Thanks Chris that’s some really quality tips, I will definitely give south landing a go, I love barn owls. The tip about the Peregrines is perfect on something I’m going to try on my next visit. Appreciate you sharing those with me 👍🏻

Can you enter the reserve at sunrise? I thought you needed tickets and the visitor centre is only open at 9:30am. Thank you.

Great video Dan I'm visiting Bempton for the first time in June (hopefully) will my 135-400 be enough for some good pics or do I need something longer? A 1.4 converter is an option. Thanks-who knows, I might even bump into you!
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback Graham. With regards to the lens choice, 135-400 will be fantastic and should give you plenty of opportunities for birds in flight as the Gannets come really close and are a huge bird. If you are after the Puffins it may be worth considering the tc or walk down to Flamborough head. You get much closer to the puffins there compared to Bempton 👍🏻

@@danwillis_photography Thanks for the help Dan. I'm sorry, I don't know the TC? Walking to Flamborough might be a problem-I have heart problems and walking any distance is a problem-I'm staying in Brid for the week and will get a taxi out to the reserve.
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry Graham, I meant ‘1.4 teleconverter’ when I said TC. As for Flamborough you can get a taxi directly to the cliff tops at Flamborough as an alternative to Bempton should you have the time to see a different venue other than Bempton Cliffs reserve. I hope this helps Graham 👍🏻

@@danwillis_photography What a plonker, I thought I had some local insider info lol! I'm there for a week from June 6 so helath (and OH) permitting I can get to one on the Wednesday and the other on the Friday. If I am only able to manage one, which would you recommend for the best photo ops?

Your photography is amazing! The pictures of the Peregrine Falcon left me starstruck , very majestic. I hope I can take pictures as good as you one day😁 Do you think it's essential to be able to drive as a wildlife photographer? For personal reasons I am unable to drive 😐 I have managed to take some pictures of Buzzards and Kingfishers in my local area but I would like to try and travel out more. I suppose there is always the train 🤔 I'm from Telford and swathes of green space are being used for development unfortunately 😔
@danwillis_photography
@danwillis_photography 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback and comments. As for the need to drive, I definitely don’t think that it’s an essential requirement. During the lockdowns I discovered so much wildlife on my doorstep through being restricted by not driving I was shocked just how much was on my doorstep. I try to travel to different areas for my KZbin channel to give the viewers a variety but it’s certainly not essential. Good luck with your photography 👍🏻

It looks like you had a great visit Dan. Was it a challenge using your big lens in the wind on top of the cliff? Will definitely check out Filey Brigg.

Thanks for the comment Gary. It was a challenge using my big lens in the wind, I should’ve used my tripod and gimbal head but for birds in flight I prefer handheld.
