Slight correction: I've been informed that Man of Action only worked on part of Earth's Mightiest Heroes, specifically a few episodes in season 2, and I found a source that seems to confirm this. From what I hear about the later seasons it kinda also misses the point of what is specifically charming about a superhero with multiple forms, by adding in elements of forms that get automatically picked for whatever is most convenient as well as overtuning later forms introduced to the point they have a sort of meta level power creep. It seems like a lot of the existing fans of Ben 10 just want to use it as a big stick for power scaling because like most Western superheroes there's no sense of restraint in the scale. As a Kamen Rider fan I can say that when you form a lot of the superhero's identity in making multiple forms that the hero is intended to switch between as a Swiss Army Knife, having too many forms or some forms that are explicitly better with no downsides can end up lukewarm. Half the fun is seeing clever use of limited powersets.

I checked each of her appearances to make sure you didn't mean a separate place, but that's the only other place or planet where she appears in UAF besides Earth. As for the latter, it's a ship of Theseus kind of situation. "if you replace every single part of a ship, one a time, is it still the same ship?" The concept of Ben10 is basically a fusion of 2 other super hero series. One is "Dial H for Hero" from DC comics, where a kid gets a phone dial which allows them to become a random hero once they dial up the letters H, E, R, and O. The other is Japans first literally big super hero, Ultraman. A long running series made by Studio Tsubaraya where a human can transform into a gigantic silver alien for about 3 minutes until a timer device starts to blink red. And the later becomes funny once you know that one of Bens mightiest Alien forms he later gets, Waybig, is a direct Ultraman reference, even coming down to the lore behind it. (The home-planet of waybig is named "Tokustar", a reference to japans super hero- and sci-fi-mother genre "Tokusatsu"). And Waybig even just straight up uses moves from Ultraman.

What I like is that the probes weird movements were remember and explained in Alien Force (Or maybe Ultimate Alien, it's been a while). When Asmuth explains that it did that sudden turn because it detected Max's DNA as the best plumber the force had. It went straight to Ben because he had DNA similar to Max as a blood relative and Ben was closer than Max was. I also think Max's favor of exotic foods was just a hint to his military-like background. When you're out in the field for hours or even days on end, you eat whatever you can geta hold of. And if you eat something undesirable long enough and eventually you will grow somewhat addicted to it or eat least like it more than what seems more normal to like. Hence why so much of the food he preps is often live insects or something that can be easily obtained out in the field during wars or in basic wilderness survival.

13:55 Actually, at this time Ben did have full control of the Aliens he turns into. The reason why he lost that control was because the mechanism was designed so that a Galvan (grey matter) could push it down and Ben constantly slamming down on it with full force messed it up.
@BiggestPhangirlАй бұрын
It didn’t mess it up, Azmuth said it initiated the randomizer. A randomizer is an actual feature, however I always wondered why he would put a randomizer in there. Anyway. I guess if you mash it too hard you’ve basically selected “random.”

Another fun fact. Although only speaking In gruffs and roars, Wildmutt has a VA. James Arnold Taylor voices him. Yup, Ratchet's VA came to a studio one day and probably spent an hour or two doing animalistic noises.
@wolfyblackknight83218 ай бұрын
i was going to make a comment about how I preferred Mikey Kelley as the original VA for ratchet but apparently James Arnold voiced the character from 2/going commando on so I can't really talk bad about the guys VA chops aside from the fact that at least to me the 2016 "reboot" was kind of well "its a reboot told by an unreliable narrator." and really that's me disliking the reboot more then the Voice work and that's like complaining the actor is bad when the writer only gives them horrible dialog they can't work with. still fun to learn that

I'm watching this on my laptop while making dinner, and when my mom came into the kitchen to get a drink, she saw Vilgax and instantly said "Ben 10". This show was such a banger, that even my mom could recognize it from a single frame. Of course, it helps that the frame had the main villain of the show in it, but still.

I remember when this show first came out, with advertisements in kids magazines and toy stores trying to sell it. They all try different angles: magazine tried to go for the "heroic" angle with a mini comic that introduced stinkfly, toy store about the "gross out" appeal with wildmutt, ripjaws, and again stinkfly. I remember a lot of the other kids I was around at the time ( I was in 5th grade so we were right before Junior high) thought it would never take off. By the end of the first season, we had all sorts of "which alien would you want to be if you had to pick one?" Debates. It was a magical time. Somehow the show managed to marry so many things that appeal to kids: road trip, hero fantasy, gross out and bizarre humor, intrigued and mystery, sci-fi adventure... Good stuff.

my definition of villainous is that the bad guy must be evil, but they need to be selfishly mean in treating people, intelligent enough to come up with good vile plans, good at deception, make people suffer, have the ego to be themselves, super rude and stink for everyone in full personality, such as Megatron, Starscream, Joker, Lex Luthor, Baxter Cartman, and whatever you know. I may not be racist at this, but I used to be scared of octopus and squid for personal reasons in childhood, I would rather admit my guilt that thinking octopus-looking characters are evil, evil is judged by their actions and personality.

Man, Ben 10 was my SHIT as a kid, and it's still a passionate part of my little kid sectioned heart. It's far from perfect, from what I remember it's distant cousin Generator Rex was actually far more consistent with its writing. But such a novel concept carried through super well enough times to mostly skate around the mis-steps. You mentioned execution near the end, and honestly you're right. Ben 10 thrived because even when all its parts weren't excellent, there was a good chance a majority of them were. Tie that in with the fact that the Omnitrix being a device made it all the more easy for kids Ben's age to imagine themselves with it? It's really no shock it was a financial slam dunk. You mentioned Ben and Gwen's designs, but honestly? Classic is my favorite art style out of all the series, personally. Of course there's nostalgia for the times of super heavy hitting fight scenes. But even then, Classic has a sort of grit to its art style that I adore. It's not what I would call edge, but more like what it was inspired by. Pulp fiction and comics. Something kinda seedy where a design like Ripjaws feels right at home, yet not something super brooding and dark. So great to revisit again. Thank you Shady.
@leirawhitehart12368 ай бұрын
Yeah, I can definitely agree about the art style, as it's hard to explain, but there's just something about it that has a down to earth charm that seemed difficult to replicate throughout the spin-offs. And if I'm honest, Alien Force and Ultimate Alien had my least favorite art styles. 😮💨 Like, I wanted to like those shows, because I like the idea of following kid characters as they grow up, not just as they're kids, so seeing Ben as a teenager was an appealing concept to me on paper, I just couldn't get over the art style. 😩 Like, I think what bothers me most, is that the characters feel so much less expressive in those two shows. Like, their eyes aren't involved as much with their expressions, i.e. not widening or half-lidding enough during certain expressions, often making them look just annoyed when they should be angry, or mildly pleased when they should be ecstatic. It's also a bit too clean, and stiff and doesn't have any of the grit you mentioned that gave the first series its charm. But even saying all that, I actually don't mind Omniverse's style as much, and I'd even call it my second favorite even though it's just as clean and even more vibrant in color pallette, as though it still doesn't have that earthly grit, at least it's more expressive. 🤔🤷♀️

The first series, Alien Force and Ultimate Alien... Those three series are what makes the whole of Ben 10 so darn memorable to me. You get introduced to the core characters and concepts in the OG series, and it's expanded upon in the two latter series (which I also want to add had the best animation of the franchise.) If I had to choose my favorite alien, Upgrade was/is always my most favorite of his collection because he's essentially the Venom symbiote but with technology. It can control practically any form of tech - hi or lo and even up to cyborgs - and then morph their physical appearance to create hi-tech laser weaponry and other things. One more thing: *_DON'T_* go searching up the OG series of Gwen Tennyson, Shady - _too much R34, bro!_

13:25 If a 10 year old me watching this, and grandpa max said to tell ben's parent about the situation, I would have been so pissed and called him boomer. This show is meant to escape from realism. It makes ben feel more cool and relatable to small kids where they also day dream that they get some kind of super power gadget and go on an adventure with their cool grandpa and dum cousin / friends. This show did gave some reality check but still kept some cool fantasy stuff. I know you are a grown man now but please understand that this show was for kids and that time taking actions which you would realistically do like taking ben to a doctor or lab, telling ben parents, informing government, etc didn't make sense for kids and would be boring and bummer from a child's perspective. Thats why grandpa was so cool among fans.
