Ben 10 Omniverse REDESIGNS 2: For Better or Worse?

Time to go through all the Ben 10 Omniverse art style redesigns PART 2, for all the secondary and tertiary characters, and a few aliens I forgot to mention last time...and finally put to rest the Omniverse art style debate. yeah the ultimatrix puts them through 1 million years of constant battle and evolution. OV feels more real to that concept, making the design more organic and rugged than sleek and symmetrical.

I gotta say i guess my problem with omniverse was actually ben and his crew(and some weird aliens and aliens that he didn't use). Aliens looked sick and characters where mostly creative in design. But sometimes it feels overdone and forced to change when it clearly didn't need too.

Honestly the Omniverse Ghostfreak design is pretty good considering the original Ghostfreak became sentient & escaped the Omnitrix so i think the whole being binded by chains is a unique feature for species of Ghostfreak for the Omnitrix to make sure they don't become sentient. The only thing i dont like about the design is the green chains.. I would have liked to see the chains & weighted collars to be gray steel colored or something like actual metal to resemble the Omnitrix's medal on the chest

You wanna know something in the Omniverse story boards some of the characters kept the Uaf designs which means they could have just adapted some of the uaf designs to the omniverse artstyle similar to what they did with some of the classic series models in early Alien Force

Honestly for all the ultimates I have to side with Omniverse I know in some cases simple is best I feel like the extra details on them I feel really flesh out and give new life to their plain-ish design Honestly I just love the style of Omniverse in general and feel a lot of their designs were just better than the rest of the series

I love albedo's OV design he has a clear distinction from Ben with the dark outlines around his eyes the warped 10 symbol on the jacket you can sometimes see UAF albedo as just ben with white hair but OV albedo looks like his own character I also really like OV Ultimate Humongousaur and Echo Echo. Humongousaur looks like an actual dinosaur and Ultimate Echo Echo i love the jack plugs for his speakers

If you look closely, Albedo’s skin is actually paler than Ben’s. I like that little touch. Simplicity is better? I disagree. I like details. It’s tiny adjustments like that can improve certain things in art

Honestly, I like to think the Omniverse Ultimates are so messy because Albedo's DNA is unstable, with his "omnitrix " stabilizing it enough for him to transform The upgrade to his stabilizer might have just made the ultimate effect warped, almost like a mutation, and less refined like the natural evolution the ultimatrix had for a simulation. That's how I see it anyways.

I usually agree with you, but i gotta disagree when it comes to ultimate humungousaur. I hated his design in Ultimate alien. The shade of green, the weird helmet, the shell that was barely useful, it sucked. Omniverse made him a prehistoric tank. I loved the full body armor, all the spikes/horns, and looks like an actual threat, rather than a forest green rock that stood up.

in defense of the ultimate redesigns, I feel that may have a good in universe explanation. Albedo had to completely rebuild the Ultimatrix, so maybe that had an effect on the variables in the evolution/simulated war function, leading to differences in the designs

and in lore wise i think they fit better, the ultamatrix basically puts them in constant battle until they come out the strongest versions of themselves. Ultimate Humangasaur is a double for me, not only does the OV design look like it would rip you too shreds, it also looks like it actually could shoot missiles with some of the robotics bits, UA is just green humungasuar with some armor and the missiles make zero sense. Ultimate spider monkey in UA looks weird to me, i get evolving into a gorilla but why the super skinny spider legs that look like obvious weak points. While I think ultimate echo echo looks better in UA the OV version defintely looks like it would pack more of a punch with stuff like the amps and the petruding disks.

Something I think what pretty much confirms that the og designs still exist is the fact that ultimate humungasaurs skull is sitting in kybers room with the same design as the ua ultimate humungasaur, which means canonically after escaping the Omnitrix he was hunted down and killed

I lean heavily towards Omniverse, It's the one I watched as a kid, never really watched all of classic and UAF. I think the majority of the omniverse redesigns are better (and not purely out of nostalgia). But characters like Eon definitely don't look good in Omniverse compared to the OG.

I personally lean heavily into Omniverse's more exaggerated looks for the aliens... minus Ultimate Echo Echo. He looks sorta off. Vulkanus to me works better with his UAF version due to it making him look both sleeker, but also letting him be more silly. Prefer it honestly. Ghostfreak's design all rock, IMO, but I prefer him with chains to set him apart from Zs'Skayr. I like the more zombie look for Zombozo, making him look more insane and rotten overall. Paradox DEFINITELY has more personality with his Omniverse look, though I'd say the same for Eon. UAF looked too bland in my eyes and Omniverse felt like a natural next step from Race Against Time's take. Azmuth's designs in UAF and Omniverse are equal to me, though prefer the wiser, grouchy voice of UAF. For Albedo, I actually love what Omniverse did for him and his aliens. He just stands out more as his own, twisted thing with the black lines under his eyes and the paler skin. Makes him look much more like a twisted, evil Ben there IMO. Wildvine's the only one of the aliens I'll agree looks better in the original series. Did you know that the two bulbs on his shoulders are actually eyes? That's SO damn cool!!! Super alien. I'm rambling at this point, but I just prefer Omniverse's art direction much more. The aliens look much more like creatures there and the newly added details to the characters just allow them to show off more of their personality without having to say a single word. Last thought, but how does Sandra look like a Karen? I think she looks much more her age in Omniverse with the added facial lines. Sells her more as someone in her mid-40s, which I believe is her age in Omniverse. The other takes looked too young in my eyes. The Omniverse design also actually looks more like her voice actress! I love those little details. I respect your opinion here, but I just don't agree with a lot of it. But, in the end, we all have our tastes.

I love Ghostfreak's original design, the way his eyes could go anywhere between the lines of his body is just such a unique take on a "ghost". I'd also go for Z'skayr's original design, just everything feels more of a unique and fresh take. OV's Z'skayr's just looks more like a generic Death ghost we see on Halloween. Sometimes OV'sredesigns just lack the subtlety that the original's had. But the one design I absolutely love from OV and benefits from its stylization is Ultimate Humongousaur, now that design was just a BEAST and I'm all for it. These ultimate aliens are supposed to be locked in war and evolved because of it. Subtlety should be out of the picture for some of them.

I just love Ghostfreak in general. Classic looks simplistic (actually a little TOO simplistic, IMO) but I love the purple eye and the moving-eye gimmick. AF looks less like a ghost, which I’m not the hugest fan of, but I LOVE the claws. Makes him look super dangerous. UA looks like Classic but with green instead of purple. I guess I like this one a little more ‘cause of the claws. OV looks the best (IMO). The chains are a nice design and I like how they hold the Omnitrix, I like his color scheme more than the others (he’s actually kinda cute!), and I like his claws. Not the biggest fan of those things jutting out of his elbows though.

that’s really fair! and tbh in a way it would be more realistic for him to only really have what he had on him when he fell out of time, which is his UAF outfit …but, as a time and space traveler, he could very easily acquire some new clothes and such, something more fitting to be in all sorts of places and even combative situations, like against Eon. And he does look really cool with the new coat, boots, and cane, regardless of the other changes

The way I interpreted his character was that due to his immortality he just happened to have found the weak-spots in the space-time continuum that allow him to "walk Time". So it's not some thechnology or magic. Due to that I also assumed that there wern't actually more than one Paradx, just the same guy apearing at diffrent times. That's why I dislike his costume change as well, cause he's not supposed to look diffrent!

The Reason Ghostfreak in omni verse got chain on it because of the specialty of that race. Thier consciousness exist even in a stran of DNA. So The chain is there for ben to fully control it without it breaking out like it once did.

I’m absolutely fine disagreeing with you on most aliens, but you’re incredibly… I want to say wrong, about Charmcaster and Ult. Humungosaur. UAF Charmcaster looks like an entirely different character, and falls into a generic ‘hot woman tight outfit fancy tiara’ profile. Keyword *generic*, it looks plain and not in a good way, and takes all the soul OS’s Charmcaster had and throws it out of the window :( OV did beautiful work giving her back the OS energy, the flared jacket being a little more refined and even looking like an upside down flower with the way the skirt-portion falls - like a wilted flower, sort of like a potion ingredient, which is witchy! Also, the tied back hairstyle is way better, and adding the purple dye gives her a more eccentric… I guess ‘2000s’ look?? Also, the pinker coat is a way better color on Charmcaster than that mid purple. I mean, you can *like* that generic profile, but it doesn’t fit *Charmcaster*, and you can’t say the UAF look was better for her than OS or OV. And Ult. Humungosaur… UAF was alright, but OV added everything Ultimate Humungosaur truly needed. It covered up the naked neck of UAF that would be an incredibly exposed weak point in combat, which would be incredibly useful for attacks from above, such as from a far taller and bulkier predator like OV showcases. If you’re about to argue Ultimate Humungosaur’s skin is too thick/tough to need armor, I’m just going to gesture vaguely at all the armor he has anyways that apparently he doesn’t need and evolved just for funsies. The UAF version’s helmet also looks super stubby and almost pathetic next to OV’s full crested one. And I find it neat that the cybernetic bits on Ult. Humungosaur’s knuckles were expanded through other parts of the body in OV, rather than confined to that one area as a mystery. I can see how it makes the design a bit busy compared to UAF, but one area that adds too much detail (the legs and other areas are an appropriate ratio of metal to flesh) is better than being vague and uninspired over a majority of the design like UAF. I think somewhere between the two, but taking a majority of the details from OV, would be an ideal Ult. Humungosaur. Also, OV Ult. Humungosaur looks like a Digimon, which I personally wholeheartedly approve of. Also, a bunch of your other nitpicks were on OV stylistic choices, and not necessarily the choices of character design themselves? Which, obviously the style factors into how the designs are presented, but if changes are applied equally to all characters, I consider it adjacent to and not part of an individual character redesign - like, OV changing the shape of Ult. Humungosaur’s helmet is a redesign, whereas things like how Ben’s eyes are drawn, or pre-luchador Rath’s markings and colors being in the same shapes and spots, are the same features under a different style. It’s art style preference, not exactly design choice preference, in the same vein as fusionfall anime Ben to regular UAF Ben. Last thing, haha, the screenshot you use of the UAF Vreedles isn’t very flattering on them - which is sort of the point of their designs, as uncanny not-quite-human humanoids, but they’re still meant to just be guys, which the OV redesigns get across with a more human-feeling face for both of them, and making the… jaw outline? lip bulge? on Rhomboid’s face less prominent, so he doesn’t look frog-mouthed. And I’m super used to Octagon’s OV look, so UAF looks a little squished and puggy in comparison. I’m still a little fond of the exaggeration OV uses, and also giving the brothers slightly different facial features, because UAF really leans into the both of them looking ‘same but one is skinny and one is big’. I’m not really mad, and this is me pretty much taking the opportunity to share my own thoughts on OV designs impromptu ✌️ …But you’re definitely the outlier on Ultimate Humungosaur and Charmcaster, and you definitely want something different out of Ben 10 than I do :p

In terms of Ben's Aliens the only OV redesigns I really dislike are Spidermonkey, Arctiguana (But only for Teen Ben) , Bigchill, Amphibian, Chromastone, Blossomed Swampfire, Humongosaur, and Ult Echo Echo. The rest I'm fine with for the most part.

I actually kinda love OV Ultimate Humongasaur. OG Humungasaur looks sort of like a cross between a therapod, with the bipedal stance and bulky body, and a sauropod, with the elephant-like feet, longish neck, and overall head shape. UA Ultimate Humongasaur looks like they took the original inspiration and added some Ankylosaur inspiration to it - the carapace, spiked ball on his tail, and the armor on his head being reminiscent of the horns on an Ankylosaurus. Finally, OV's Ultimate humongasaur takes the original design, expands upon it (by making the carapace cover more of the body, adding shoulder pads, etc.) and taking some ceratopsid elements with the face. I'd say my only problem with it is all of the areas where the skin seems to be tearing. It's supposed to be a result of evolution and I can't really see a real creature evolving to have parts of their anatomy literally tearing apart their flesh. Oh, I also like the more subtle, natural colors a bit better. Basically, Triceratops is my favorite dinosaur and I'm super biased

Personally, I like Ultimate Humungousaur in Omniverse rather than UA's. In UA I always felt like he was kinda underwhelming if I'm honest, with an oddly slender and nimble frame that wasn't fitting his broad shoulders and blocky exterior. In Omniverse the added shelling around his body helps to fill him out a bit more to me as well as show off his muscles, and the spines while having the potential to make him look messy, actually kinda nicely break up parts of his body if that makes sense? But my favorite thing about Omniverse Ulti would have to be his less exposed neck. Having the plating on top helps to make him look more slender where it counts whereas with UA his neck peaks over his much smaller head, which always just kinda looked goofy to me. So in summary, the plating helps to make the bulk of Ulti feel more defined yet still huge, and I like the overall tightening of his design while still scaling up his general size to make it fit. I also think the extra plating and junk near his elbows helps a bit with his hand cannons. They don't make them make more sense compared to UA's, but I dunno, I guess it just looks a bit more, correct? It having the ripples that the finger plates do help to associate them in the brain while looking at the design, so it just looks a bit nicer to me. Overall it really fits a war torn species pretty well, making him look scarred and ready for anything. My favorite redesign would have to be for Spider-Monkey though. I've never been a big fan of OG Ultimate Spider-Monkey, like you mentioned his spindly legs just don't fit the rest of his body super well and make him look awkward, and then besides his splitting mouth there isn't much about him that was ever too memorable to me. In Omniverse they ditched the spider legs and beefed his regular arms, giving him a proper hulking appearance, and Omniverse's big chin design actually works in favor here, since instead of hiding the split jaw until it opens like it looked like in UA the split jaw is always viewable in Omniverse, so his massive chin just helps to make it look like he's got this massive screaming maw, especially when he shoots webbing. In my eyes? A very well earned upgrade.

I was never a fan of Paradox's redesign, not because the design didn't look good, because it does, but because it didn't make sense to me that Paradox would change; a key point with him is that he is frozen in time, looking like he did during the accident. Changing his clothing and adding more tech I could just about get behind, but the visible aging killed it for me. Ghostfreak's OS eye is cool, but I do like the chains as a somewhat symbolic indication that he could no longer become sentient and turn against Ben. Charmcaster... I get the UAF design is popular, in part because it does play up the... appeal, personally I find the OV design cuter, particularly in her debut, where she is kinda crazy. Plus it's more of an OS callback. As for the Ultimates personally I didn't like the total conceptual shift of Spider Monkey, I prefer the Dock Ock esqe Spider legs. As for Humungasaur, I prefer the UA desing, but I do like the way the 'helmet' Forms a mask covering his face, I think that's cool.

The way I always saw OV’s Paradox was on some level a retcon design- not that he was aging, but that it’s to be assumed he had always been that same age in UAF, seeing as his exact physical age has never been very important to his character. Of course, it’s never outright touched upon or acknowledged in canon, so it might just be me, but maybe this interpretation could help the design sit better with you ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also, yeah, OV/OS Charmcaster is way nicer!! They both just have a far more distinct feel to them, whereas UAF is super vague and undefined, and if you stuck a different VA and script on the design, it’d be a whole different character :p

Dude’s actually scary. and the way the metal armor, wires, and spikes mesh with the his flesh really reminds of that these evolutions are an unnatural and horrifying process. I have the same sentiment for nearly every ultimate alien in omniverse they had much more options to go ham on the villainous look once it was albedo’s power again 4:27 *what do you mean your not sure??* That’s his whole thing. -Saur is in his name! He’s the most dinosaury alien in the show short of tyranopede, which are both from the same planet… of *prehistoric themed aliens!* I will say I have an apreciation for Alien forces Zs’skayr. Between the back spikes and the vampire teeth the changed are subtle but neat. And while OV’s design is technically more generic, a running design theme of the series was that the aliens had a lot of similar cultural aesthetics to humans and I think the hood and works even better with his claws. I think its funny how they confirmed zs’skayr can flip his head both ways to his comfort, Like you could do with the old toy. At the end of the day it is hard to get more iconic than the OG look. Secret of the omnitrix azmith does have dreamy eyes, ans without the tunic he looks ready to do some on field work. 3:33 a karen?! Ouuuch that’s just harsh. 1:33 huh being a die har OV deffender, I think I slightly like OG artiguana more.

Zombozo is a villain that motives have been the most inconsistent throughout the series. IRL i think the writers just had no idea what to do with him. Even in his first episode it’s not entirely clear how his energy draining gimmick fully works. In AF man of action leans too heavy into spoof Joker with an organized crime thing. And OV wanted to put the zombie in zombozo. Hmmmm, in universe Maybe he Just gets so traumatized from each of his defeats his personality shifts abit? And by omniverse his mutation took a drastic shift?

Like Ben 10000, Ken (Ben's son), Cooper, Mutant Kevin Eleven, Gwen 10 (when Gwen got the Omnitrix), Tetrax, Lucky Girl, Argit, Doctor Viktor, Young Ben Tennyson (yes, he looks the same throughout each series but they do have their difference due do the art style changing throughout each series), & Six-Six (their subtle difference, but they're there).
