i'm lgbt and a poc, but im not afraid. i actually disagree with things like affirmative action and such. i think it had its place in history to level the playing field for certain minority groups, but i think it's come to a level where it's creating privileged classes. i'm also a really private person when it comes to my orientation, ethnicity, and disabilities. i feel like a lot of these initiatives have created an unfair playing field after the playing field has been leveled. for instance, years ago, i referred a black friend to a former shared workplace. we have the exact same credentials and educational degree backgrounds (both completed the same masters degree and concentration), yet his salary was $10K more than what i earned. the only difference we had other than gender was ethnicity. unofficial reason was because black americans are more oppressed than asian americans historically speaking and he deserved that 10K surplus over me who was asian american and had worked for the company for years, and if i had any marginalized classes that i didn't disclose to HR I was encouraged to share them if I feel i should get paid the same as him. thing is i dedicated my life to this job and led many company wide projects from my experience growing up underprivileged, but i don't talk about that part of my life coz those were hard times and very personal. so they were paying me under the assumption of surface level things not including merit. both my black friend and i left the company within 1 year of each other for different reasons though.

There's a variation on that where I work for applying for internal things - they ask for your details and employment history and things, but they state on the application form that they only take into account three questions, which are questions where you are asked when you have demonstrated core competencies of the position.

It doesn't ONLY mean this. It also means removing any programs aimed at helping underprivileged groups get access to things and get jobs. Veterans, for example. There can be no programs aimed at helping veterans get re-introduced into civilian society, helping them get jobs and get certifications etc. Because that's DEI. Vet's CAN still get veteran preference on resumes though, they are unique in this way. DEI is about helping qualified and competent people get noticed by a system that wasn't built to notice them, by 1) changing the system and 2) helping underpriveledged people understand and gain access to the system.

Hey walmart sla- employee here. From my personal experience I've been treated like crap and even had a male co worker report me for some bs even though he's the one creepily staring at women coming into our store. I've never once mentioned my body in any sort of way and yet they mentioned so many times. Back at the other store I worked a team lead made a comment about my body, I would've reported it but her friend was a coach so there was no point. walmart will lie being okay with us.

Hey, fellow Aussie here c: While it’s fair to be worried at this point in time since things are currently the closest they’ve ever been to getting worse for us, there’s still a lot more that needs to go wrong before it’s worth stressing about! We’re fortunate to have our system structured in such a way that undoing any kind of protections we have would be VERY difficult, take A LOT of time, and is ultimately unlikely. A more significant portion of our wider public is wise to the fact that the LNP (Littleproud in particular) wants to be Trump soooo bad, and is trying to make us the boogeyman to distract with a culture war. The current move move by the QLD LNP gov is just them stress testing to see if there’s any traction to be gained by moving in this direction in light of actions by the Trump administration. Most of us frankly don’t care for it, and they’ll likely receive the message that it’s an unpopular policy to push for if they want votes. The current review in QLD will either comeback with evidence disproving the legitimacy of a ban, or be met with heavy resistance for inherent bias otherwise. We have enough good eggs that’ll ride for us, as well as neutral parties wise to the BS, that at the worst I’d expect moves like this to meet a perpetual gridlock well into the next term, if they won at all.

I work for a library and they don't just heavily focus on DEI; they added a B to make it "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging." We're all working through required DEIB training right now, which was designed by a volunteer DEIB committee of employees from different branches. And the committee actually is quite diverse; I'm pretty sure they only white people on the committee are LGBTQ+.

@frishter That was definitely not my intention. I was just trying to think of a way to redirect the ice cream to people who could benefit from high calorie food. But I get that it's not the best advice if it’s tempting someone trying to stay on track with their goals. However, it is worth noting that the occasional indulgence is actually beneficial when dieting. A too strict a diet can cause people to give up. Dieting should be about achieving a healthy balance. Also, by buying the ice cream and giving it away they train themselves to better resist temptation. Avoidance isn't always the best strategy.

Ice cream unfortunately is a cruel industry. :/ as much as I love B&Js mission, I cannot support. Cows are forcefully impregnated against their will, forced to carry to term, then their baby is taken from them while the mama cows bellow for their babies. Cows feel immense emotion and maternal instincts like humans. They miss their babies. The boy babies are taken to farms for sl@ughter for their meat, the girls are kept on the dairy farm to repeat what happens to their mothers. All dairy cows are sl@ughtered when they can no longer make milk. All male cows birthed to dairy cows are also sla@ughtered when they are grown. The girl cows often freeze to death, or die of dehydration alone. The babies are segregated from their mothers and other babies. And never receive their mother’s milk. The mama cows live a life full of infection. Their bodies are not meant to make milk every single day for their lifespan. They have mastitis constantly, sore nippl3s, and often collapse because of how weak they are. I’ve had mastitis and it was worse than my labor. They live with that nearly every month. It’s simply just animal abus3. We do not NEED dairy to survive.. all of the vitamins we get from dairy are actually from plants that the cows eat. The cow is the middle man. Skip the middle man and just go straight to the plants. There are tons of awesome vegan ice creams! Do not support dairy. It’s all animal abus3

A lot of people hate on Comcast/Xfinity - I worked there 17 years. They do DEI and still do. I had a trans woman supervisor and she used lady's bathroom no problem. Check their scores by different groups - they score high for DEI.

I was applying for work here last month. Got offered a job after I had to boy up for a interview for Walmart in the stocking department but also got a offer for a job at the districts different schools to be a lunch lady. I didn't think they would hire me as soon as I told them I was trans with the climate we are in. Glad I told the district job supervisors that day that i was though. I was going too far in paperwork and was supposed to report to the high school Monday morning so I said there's something I need to tell you guys before we go any further. I had a picture of me all Cathryn on my phone and showed them and said I'm trans. My main supervisor was very nice and answered me I still had the job. The three of us in the office talked awhile about the whole thing and I felt so relieved. Thumbs up and my smile was priceless. Finally I don't have to boy up and drive truck fear of losing my job if a mill or store worker found out at one of my deliveries or something. I was so happy to finally get a job where I could be me. Glad Walmart's shift overlapped my school schedule now, would have been too much working both jobs anyway although used to being a long haul trucker anyway. I felt like Walmart probably wouldn't have cared much but that they wouldn't protect me either if it was in their best interest, they would fire me for no reason even though we all know what the reason would be. One week last week so far working as a lunch lady and I worked as Cathryn with a smile. If the parents only knew their kids are eating sandwiches made by a trans woman. I don't know how long this will work but even though it might be not for long at least I feel confident that I can get out of truck driving. Forget Walmart. I hauled bricks for them before too. The thanks we get ..... Should have thrown them. 😊 No just joking but yeah Walmart we all are human beings and none of us should be tread on. Liked the video Samantha!
