EDM took over 80's 90's in Europe before there even was this Commercial EDM you refer too. It was a genre emerged from it, inspired by. Heck, people even didn't coin the term EDM back then. It might explain why newer gens refer to it as EDM

So, I’m here listening to this because my daughter, age 27 and lives in San Diego, just sent me a pic of her with two guys just now, her text with it said, MY fav DJ’s!!! Found them in the crowd when I was leaving and had a heart attack🤩….that’s exactly how she texted it.. I asked her who,, she texted back Ben Bohmer and Spencer Brown..she then sent me a song from Apple Music to listen too called phases.. I thought I would just watch it on KZbin, and here I am.. This music is very good. I told her I like it 😁 I’m happy she got a pic with you , she said she still can’t believe it..
