That's right. England had a first innings score of 400+ in 3 of the 5 tests - 537 in the first test, 400 in the fourth test, and 477 in the final test. We(India) were just better than them.

Bazball is like driving a car at 150kmph. It works on smooth roads.(flat pitches) But when the road is bumpy and rough (turning pitches in India ),Bazball can be disaster . But Eng will be 150 allout on a turning pitch ,irrespective of what approach they take.

To be honest, if India prepare rank turners, there will be the odd match or 2 where England could win. Preparing these wickets brings a sense of randomness, which could bring England into the game. I would rather let the pitches be as they naturally are. India have all the tools to beat England even on flatter pitches. England lack quality in their spin attack. Ashwin and Jadeja have also been successful in some of the series where we had flat pitches at home (2015 to 2017).

Nasser is right about cricket spreading in local parts of India being the reason for such venues and not because test cricket against England is less important than the IPL. We get a chance once every 4 years and if you play it in the same stadium again then its unfair for other fans

@@chang-jungkarki1684 Yes, spin is bound to be there. No doubt about that. In my view, this series will witness pace, bounce, spin, less swing kind of pitches. Teams should be ready for pacey, spin, swing, flat tracks. They don't have any control over that. As long as the play goes on till 4th or 5th day, with stiff competition, then it will be good for test cricket. At the same time, players need to demonstrate skills which are required for test match play. It's about how they INSPECT and ADAPT to the playing conditions. Players need to develop patience and play based on the merit of the ball, rather than T20I style. Hope genuine test cricket survives. All 3 top test playing nations (IND, ENG, AUS) cricket boards need to come out and sit together and formulate key strategies and bring more discipline to the purest form of cricket. Example:These days teams could not even complete 90 overs in one day. Everyone complains about pitches. It s a mental block which team carries which makes them nervous and fail. I am sorry to say this, none of the other test playing countries (SA, SL, PAK, BAN, WI, ZIM) are neither producing good test match batsman nor bowlers. Love to see batsman scoring fighting hundred, bowlers getting under the skin of batsman and getting 5-fers and bringing bowling team back to game. Love TEST CRICKET. All the best teams. Great chat. Ben is a switched on guy making a name for himself. His game really is similar to how Warner burst onto the scene. He hadnt even played a single first class match when he debuted for Oz in white ball, and still bugger all for his test debut. A good technique plus backing yourself carries across all formats. He did face the best seam attack in the world last summer but that was in England with a dukes ball. I think he has enough experience to avoid the shock of being on a dustbowl In India with an SG ball and a guts ache from a bad curry. Luv his game, hope he kills it.

As much as I enjoy watching this England team, I think the preparation for this series is subpar, somehow feels a bit overconfident not playing a single prep match in India and preparing in the UAE. It’s a mystery. With 10 days to go before the 1st test, the tv rights remain unsold. Maybe Sky are losing their clout in negotiating for big sporting events. They’ve not had the Champions League for a few seasons, they’ve lost that and the away Ashes tours to BT / TNT and they’ve not had any snooker tournaments for years either. Maybe there’s not that bottomless pit of cash at Sky towers in Isleworth anymore.

That 2012 tour was the last time Indian curators produced sporting tracks in a series against the top3 nations (Aus,Eng,SA) with a possible exception of 2016 eng v Ind tour. Pietersen dismantled Ashwin and Ojha and Cook frustrated them with his solid defence. Current English team has many guys who would love to repeat Pietersen heroics and are perfectly capable too. Pitches like the one in Chennai when eng toured last time, would be highly risky against this English team especially in the first two games. If ball starts turning huge on the first day itself then playing an aggressive game is the best option and lower order contributions become vital. This Might be the rationale behind selection of jurel. Anyways doesn't matter what happens it will definitely be a much closer contest than last time around. Eagerly waiting for the action to begin.

I feel this would be hard fought series. Won’t be easy for India to beat Eng for number of reasons. Eng won’t change their attacking game and will try to put Ashwin and Jadeja under lot of pressure by scoring quickly which will result in less players in catching position for most of the time. If this continues for longer period of time,then eventually bad bowling will trigger and will hurt India’s chances further. India’s main chance lies with attacking batting at almost similar pace and put Eng on the back foot and enforce Eng bat like similar way around 4th or 5th day which won’t be easy on deteriorating surface. If India is not upto the mark in batting,which they haven’t batted with excellence for past number of years,then might face defeat on home soil after 2012🙄
