i'm not trying to call you out, but just in general because it's weird so many people have been saying the same thing on this video. sara isn't trying to be regina. my guess is she was just in LA while ben folds was there, she came on stage, he let her sing and this was the part she sang. it was awesome to have her there as a surprise guest, the crowd loved it even if she's not regina. she was just having fun.

well the song definitely has elements taken from both of their styles, but i meant that the musical style was more like regina. i wasn't really referring to the lyrics, but you're right there. and i definitely love the song, but i was hoping there would have been a more prominent piano part, considering it was merging two phenomenal pianists. oh well, it's catchy and bouncy anyway :P

@lumrules Point taken. I really do like Regina, I was just surprised after all the ballyhooing that it seemed kinda average--from a strictly musical perspective. But I understand that performers bring all kinds of things to the table, including personality, that can't be objectively measured. So thanks for picking me up on that. No need for Sara and Regina fans to go to war over this one--they're both fab and together swim against the tide of what passes for pop music these days.

I love Sara a whole lot, and she had the guts to know that she most likely would be compared to Regina's version with Ben, and did it anyway ... and obviously had fun in the process. Nonetheless, NO ONE can compare to Regina. Her innocence and playfulness is so natural, and her New York (Bronx) / Russian Jewish accent is just perfect for this (and frankly whatever she does). Not complaining. Just sayin.

Regina Spektor has a very unique style of singing so replacing her is quite impossible. Nevertheless, I think Sara Bareilles is a very talented singer and does a good job by doing her own thing here instead of trying to copy Regina.

Geez, with all the dissing of Sara by Regina fans I decided to listen to Regina's version, expecting to be totally blown away (I do like Regina) and....NOTHING. Totally underwhelmed. If my eyes were closed I would have thought it was some average amateur. The ends of her phrases just stop--no resonance whatsoever. I realize the song is a spoken/sung hybrid, but still! Sara's is vocally richer. Again, no disrespect to Regina, but she hardly 'owns' this song, so get over yourselves Regina fans!
