This was September 10th, 1999 in Tokyo, for anyone that's wondering.

I've seen Ben Folds twice. The first time was in 2011 with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. The second time was in October 2016 with just Ben and a piano. Both shows were phenomenal. He's a real musician. People forget that he doesn't just play piano. At the ISO show, he came out for an encore by himself and just killed it messing around on some of the percussion instruments.

Great comment. Not this video but in others when playing solo on piano it sounds like a guitar and drum set are right behind him.

Saw him open for John Mayer once. He was so hilarious and soo bloody good. He stole the damn show.

@@PatrickRob82 Ben is one of the funniest people in music. I couldn't stop laughing at everything he did. He also got conducted the crowd in multi-part harmony for "Not the Same," and it sounded wonderful. Another really funny person I've seen is Matt Nathanson. His concert is part music, part improv comedy.

I don't think people know how hard it is to make that kind of music. The end of performance w no singing=insane! To see them live would've been on my bucket list. I guess it still is.

I was able to see them once and I've seen Ben Folds solo three times. It helps to live in Ben's home state.

Man, I love this band! It's like every song is perfect. Great lyrics, excellent musicianship, and the vocals are always impressive. AND their live shows were amazing. I feel fortunate that my brother and I were able to see their last show in Minneapolis before they broke up.

This is the song that got me hooked on Ben Folds Five. I bought the Album back in '96 and it was epic awesomeness the whole album through.

When he toured solo he was definitely lacking too excellent vocalists and rhythm section in Sledge and Jessee.

That's the best version of that song that I've ever seen. I'm guessing that this was filmed during the Reinhold Messner tour. Good stuff.

Fuzzy bass is one of the most brilliant musical devices to come out of the last 50 years when you stop to think about it. In a rock setting, it glues the guitars to the kick drum…in a metal setting, it adds weight to the mid range and makes the guitars sound bigger…in ANY context, it helps bass translate on smaller speakers…and of course BFF used it to completely bypass the need for guitars in the first place. It’s just endlessly useful if you’re willing to explore the entire gain spectrum.
