very so often for the past number of years, I get attached, then move on, go back, or move in a different direction, as to which Ben Folds piece emotionally moves me the most at any given time. Zak and Sara, Not the Same, Gone, Kate, and so many more have been on that rotating list time & time again. Right now, I am fixated on watching/listening to different versions of 'Kristine from the 7th Grade'. The melody seems, to me anyway, so beautifully maudlin.

Lifetime goal achieved this past year: heard Ben play with the Atlanta symphony orchestra and sing "The Luckiest" while holding my wife's hand. I cried openly through several of the songs, and I'm here for anything and everything he puts out. He entered my musical consciousness from "Brick" on a mix tape my brother left at home when he went to college, and then Rockin' the Suburbs became the soundtrack of my undergrad years. Found more of his older stuff when moving overseas to teach English for four years. No matter when or where, his songs transport me to the heights of joy and depths of bitterness over and over! And then, my jazz musician friend who also attended his concert explained how he loves Ben for "understanding that the piano is a percussion instrument," and I notice that now too. Adding this great video to my rotation!

Unpopular opinion: The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner is Ben Folds’ greatest moment . All these years later, it’s my go-to BFF album.

There are some career-best moments on this album. I love what he's done with "Fragile" in the live version. Never know what comes out when you tour a record.

Ben is an exceptional singer songwriter and such a great pianist. Great to hear solo versions of a small portion of his extensive catalogue. I have to say i really don't understand why the audience laughed so much at the intro to Kristine from the 7th Grade? There is nothing funny about this song. It is a great summary of the negative outcomes that have come with people's obsession with social media which in my view is ruining our society. Listen carefully to the lyrics.
