On this episode of Chargers Weekly, Chris Hayre and Matt “Money” Smith recap the latest news involving LA and the entire NFL. The hosts are joined by Bolts Executive Director of Player Performance Ben Herbert to discuss the tricked out weight room at The Bolt, the Chargers’ new training facility in El Segundo which opened ahead of 2024 Training Camp. Herbert talks about his relationship with Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, training quarterback Justin Herbert, and how working with rookies like Junior Colson & Joe Alt differs from training accomplished veterans like Khalil Mack & Joey Bosa.

Ben Herbert is just as valuable as any player or other coach on this team. People wonder how elite teams can maintain consistent excellence. You're looking at a huge part of it in this interview. Absolutely glued to the screen when Ben speaks. Thank you and well done to Chris and Money for having him on.

I wana have this dudes baby. Lol. I truly believe, and I know I'll get strife but I believe this guy is more important to the team than The Harb. Yes that's what I call him. THE HARB, Let me rephrase that, His impact to the team will be greater to the team than Jimmy's. This is something our franchise has been lacking for a very long time. This staff is unprecedented. I feel like you can put just about any roster with this staff and they're going to be better. I am so thankful this is our staff. Money, Chris love you guys.

GREAT, great, great pod. Ben Herbert may be the second most important person of the new staff. I wish you had asked him (and maybe you can later) about exactly what he was training, from a kinesiology stand-point with the unusual early season particularly, exercises like the push and pull with handles, the 2# lifts, the band pulls off training equipment, the kneeling one-handed lift with three points still on the ground. I was fascianted by those and think it was probably working on small muscle areas to prevent injuries. We almost have FOOTBALL!!! And The Bolt is amazing.

I think he meant Justin's desire to work hard needs to be controlled to an appropriate level, because QB1 is so precious to the team's success and pushing the envelope too far could lead to negative effects and injuries.

"Sun's out, Guns out, no Doubt!!!" LMAO We finally have coaches who are smart, stoic, cool, normal - MEN! Bolts are coming to Destroy and take names! Time to open up a "Can O' Whoop Ass" on the NFL! I know my Bolt brothers & sisters can feel it...I've got my Lucha Libre Bolt mask from 15 yrs ago (yep, I was one of the OG's who first brought it, hah; I grew up sometimes watching the cheezy fake blood Mexican wrestling or the hot, scantily dressed news gals as a little horny kid due to the local Diego tv having 1 channel out of like 15-20 channels, hah) but still have my 70's and 80's Bolt swag too as I'm a Pt Loma/Diego surfer boy having gone with my Dad to games since 1974! Please bring back the Bolt 'canons' Spanos family, cuz you better be ready for the loudest stadium in the country!!! As Bruce Buffer says, IIIIITTTTTSSSSS TIIIIMMMMMEEEEE!!!!! In the soon to be loser corner is... (pick any of the unfortunate teams that got the Bolts on their schedule) and in the soon to be winner corner is....the coolest (and smartest, hah) fans, the best uniforms, the best coaches, players (and finally I can say owners due to the recent coaching hires, lol you’ve always done a great job in truth) in the wooorld, the Los Angeles SUPER 'about to stomp on yr throat', CHARGERS!!!!!! See that, I'm also requesting the wonderful Spanos family that you redo the badass Supercharger song with los angeles in it. Law-san-jah-lis, Suuper-Charg-er..get it?! In summary, 1) Hire Bruce Buffer for Bolt home games (it'll be initially specific to the Bolts which should increase Bolt (and NFL) top line revenue and would need to be approved of course, by the NFL 2) Bring back the Murph 'canons' with smoke after every score and 3) Redo 'SuperCharger' Bolt song to include Los Angeles. If Spanos family would like to thank me for this (guaranteed to increase sales by hyping up Bolt fans and all other NFL fans' energies) marketing advice, I wouldn't turn away (if you lovingly provided as a thank you), two box tickets for as many games as you will out of your good & kind heart - am I pouring it on too much, lol. Charger org only....johnnyray7@proton.me
