@Stella Marie Poetry and Green Arts the immediate replacement (character of Humphrey) was good because he brought in a different blend: instead of Richard Poole’s social awkwardness + scientific intelligence + creature of habit, Humphrey had physical awkwardness + emotional intelligence + try new things. After that, it just got ‘formulaic’ with the character of the lead detective … that’s the best way I can describe it because I didn’t really connect with them anymore.

I can't get on with O'Hanlon's character. Not sure why, but I think it's a combination of him ever-so-slightly over-acting, maybe the writing not being as good, and my own preconceptions preventing me from taking him seriously. It's a shame, and something I try to overcome, but so far, to no avail.

Loved this podcast today, but good to see you both on camera too. Ben's laugh is so infectious, love it! Still hoping that Ben will just rock up in Saint Marie (Death in Paradise) with Camille - alive and well - having faked his own death. The unspoken romance between Richard and Camille has massive potential and is begging for a spin off series.
@Coolgamer-ys7qt3 жыл бұрын
Camille loved Richard. Humphrey loved Camille...
@kelsiaramaple3 жыл бұрын
@@knowjusticeknowpeace15 Friendly banter is fine, it's ok to disagree! We all see the characters differently. With Humphrey and Camille, to me it all seemed one sided from Humphrey and he only realised he 'loved' Camille in the final episode of S3 (I recall saying wtf, where did that come from), but I didn't see any hint of romantic feelings or love connection from Camille at all. Whereas with Richard and Camille, to me the chemistry was more obvious - Camille flirting with him, her expressions and desire written across her face so many times, but it went deeper than that. Richard's character was to be awkward when it comes to romance, but Camille knew this and understood him on a deeper level. The way she looked at him when she thought he was her blind date and then realised he wasn't, it spoke volumes. The scene during the storm where they sat together in candlelight, talking about personal experiences and feelings was beautiful. The way she looked crushed as he packed to return to London for a few days, thinking he wouldn't return, the hug she gave him before leaving in the taxi and then the relief as he arrived back - it set up series 3 to build on the romance and then the abomination of S3E1 happened. Thank goodness for fanfiction where Richard's very much alive and well. Anyway, just explaining my thoughts on it all, but genuinely interested to know your thoughts on Humphrey and Camille. :)
@ThreadBomb Жыл бұрын
I thought Camille spent most of her time being pointlessly bitchy to Richard, and I didn't see any convincing romance there. It was just a bad writing choice, which thankfully evened out once the next detective turned up.

There are so many more topics that I wish Rob Brydon had asked Ben Miller about (instead of concentrating on "they look similar to each other"). I loved "The Armstrong and Miller Show." Ben's comedy and comedic timing are so wonderful, that I wonder if he is interested in going back to a pure comedy (or comedy skit show) again?? How does he feel about comedy vs dramatic acting; does he have a preference (and why is that), or if it is "both" (what draws him to one or the other)? And I would like to hear more about his interest in science (if that is still a part of his life). To go from studying toward a PhD in physics at Cambridge to being in a completely different world of acting... it is such a huge leap, there must still be a major part of his passion that wants to concentrate on science (or has he become so enamored with acting that he doesn't feel that way at all). There must be a ton of other topics to discuss with Ben Miller that I am, as yet, unaware. Such an interesting person. Can we get him back on WILTY?

Having worked as a consultant to a couple of different police departments over the years, the funny part is that Death in Paradise is a LOT closer to reality than The Wire, or most any modern police procedural.
