In this video I entered the Game Makers Toolkit Game Jam 2023, a game jam hosted by Mark Brown from the GMTK KZbin channel. In this jam, my composer, ZzTBat and I, made a game where you get revenge on a scammer by hacking into their PC and solving a series of puzzles.
About me:
Hey, I'm BenBonk, an indie game developer who uses the Unity Engine. I've made and released many small games before on my itch page, though now I'm attempting to make my first commercial game, Slimekeep. Slimekeep is a roguelike, using a very limited color palette, similar to Enter the Gungeon, though with a few interesting mechanics, such as keeping slimes alive longer will earn you more money, and the ability to capture slimes to power up your slime pet. Once I realized this was also a browser game, I decided to give it a shot, because it sounded super cool from what I've seen. I have to say, this is a well-made and very fun puzzle game! Usually I don't like puzzles (don't hate 'em, but don't love 'em, either), but this one was actually super fun! I felt so happy when I figured something out, and I almost felt like a real hacker! Super proud that I managed to beat the game without any hints (well, technically I already saw the first hint in the video, so not really-) If you like fun puzzle games, random person scrolling through the comments, this game is right up your ally! I fully recommend checking it out :D

This game was actually really fun! I enjoyed it all, although I got stuck on the first puzzle because I was inputting the credentials into the wrong window. I didn't use any hints, but I still finished in about 15 minutes. The game overall is very fun! I really didn't expect the pet name to come from there though. Very clever with the puzzles!

Just played the game and definitely enjoyed it, Nicely done! Small side note: please snap windows that are too far outside to the closest border instead of back to the center. When someone's intention is to drag the window to the side and it snaps back to the center, that can become annoying quickly... Looking forward to the next slimekeep devlog! :)

You being vague about the game made me want to play it so desperately. The mechanics felt great and after getting to know the layout it got really intuitive. Had some minor hiccups comprehending some prompts, but it quickly evened itself out because there was no overflow of possibilities. Overall I really enjoyed the game, the music and the feel of it. Keep creating!

Cool game concept. I would like to see this be extended into a longer game! Some feedback: - I think it could do do well with animated cut scenes - Option to skip cutscene in botttom right (but disable skip for first time use?) - Higher pixel count for each sprite, so they can look a bit more polished and obvious, as they have more detail. Also clearer text with more pixels You nailed that email and messager sprite they look mad. Well overall the art is good though haha

This game jam was really fun, the theme "Roles Reversed" allowed for so many possibilities. I was to happy to submit a game of my own. So impressed by this submission and by your overall progress as a game developer.

This game was actually pretty fun. Puzzles were fire, music was fire, the conversation in chat+ where someone copies the scammers messages and then trolls them to the absolute maximum was fire. 9/10, short but epic game

I loved the game, it was fun but something that can put it to the next level would be a way to lose. For example, a timer when it runs out Benedict will get back on the computer and stop you, or when you put in the wrong inputs on things it will warn Benedict which might get you caught.

@BenBonk , i found a bug that occurs that if in the ending segment, you click the shutdown button again (or at least the place it used to be in), it will replay the ending cutscene, this can be spammed to create a text amalgam in the cutscene due to multiple instances of the cutscene playing at once

I wanted to do Marks GameJam as usual this year cuz I thought the theme was really unique fun to a jam. But with my limited knowledge of working with python which I'm still learning with for basic GameDev. My knowledge is very limited at the moment. I gotta admit your game does sound like a ton of fun though Ben. I love me some puzzle games. Also great inspiration to get from as well.

If you end up updating the game (I’m just saying it seems really fun for a sequel or something) you could maybe add a notes app or something to let players jot down ideas or important information to remember but that’s just my opinion and if you think letting players remember or go back and try to find it is ok

Cool idea. I'm just getting into game dev and want to do devlogs. For something like this, how do you go about recording things? Do you just record unity the whole time you are actively working? Trying to think through how to do this.

Nice, good luck! I personally just record mostly whenever I make progress on something, and want to show it off. Occasionally I will also record 10-20 minute snippets of me working to use for timelapses.
