Bill Haley, the pioneer of Rock and Roll is a bit ignored now a days. Are we pushing him to oblivion ? The clarity in his voice and the spontaneity in his lyrics and rhythm have made him unique. Unforgettable.

Haley was hardly a pioneer. The songs in this video are typical - a then new interpretation of an old jazz standard, and a rehash of a Big Joe Turner song. Rock and Roll goes back at least to the 1940's with negro artists. However, Haley and the Comets were big sellers, being white and not black, and a key reason was not Haley's pretty tame voice, but the top class drumming in the original studio recordings. Later performances with a different drummer were never the same. The sound balance is all wrong in this video, you can hardly hear Haley in part of it, and the drumming is very competent but basic. Did they have a different drummer in this recording?

@@keithammleter3824 Rock and Roll originated from the African Americans. Even Jazz was. The Danny Kaye movie 'A Song Is Born' is based on this history. Rest you said wasn't known to me.

@@dipakdey4177 : Correct. The second song in this video is an African-American Jump Blues song. That's how Rock and Roll got the name - "rock-n-roll" was African-American slang for sex. White teenagers listened to the early rock and roll / jump blues on the radio and bought records from "under the counter". Their parents didn't like it - they saw it as corrupting or riske - which a lot of it was, and called it rock and roll. White guys like Elvis, Haley, Pat Boone and others covered African-American tunes, toning down the lyrics where necessary. The second song in this video, Shake, Rattle, and Roll had riske lyrics when performed live at African-American venues.

Haley worked his Ass off and toured all over Europe during 57/58, the first True Rock and Roll/ Rockabilly Artist, unfortunately History seems to ignore Haley.

My Dad had a BH&C album with shake ,Rattle &Roll on it . we played it a lot along with , GI Blues by Elvis and the Serendipitl Singers( there was a crooked man) . I'd give anything to have that old suitcase style Record Player we played those albums onm.

On this day in 1956 {May 9th} 'The Biggest Rock and Roll Show of 1956' played it's 19th of a 45 date-tour at the Cincinnati Gardens in Cincinnati, Ohio... Two of the eleven acts appearing at the concert were Bill Haley & His Comets and The Platters... And consequently, according to Billboard Magazine, at the time, Haley & the Comets' "The Saints Rock and Roll" and the Platters' "Winner Take All' were tied at #65 on the Top 100 chart... In addition, Haley & the Comets had two other records on the Top 100; "R-O-C-K" {at #39} and "See You Later, Alligator" {at #85}, while the Platters' "Great Pretender" was at #82...

I adore this and the 1956 film rock round the clock also love burl ives witty funny songs i lovw to play this on my piano great musicians also great orchestras of that era jazz blues soul the andrew sisters and vera lynn best show i ever saw live was at sheringham cromer area east england simply blown away stayed at norwich hotel where fooball match was played at their home ground back of holiday inn I do not follow football but great to see yorkshire northern team beat southerners or norwich team at tgeir hime ground we watched foitball from inside of hotel could see players limber up sadly we did not have back bedrooms where u cud watch match for free but love this music great beat rock n roll 50s 60s

In the unbalanced spots where you can hear Grande's piano, he's boogieing with the best of them. On records, his playing was a little tinkly and not nearly as driven as a Domino or Lewis. Watching Beecher on lead guitar he is often covering bass lines to fill the void. Where Rudy jumps on the guitar fill it seems like he was trying to cover if the amp wasn't up enough as it did seem to be. The Comets can rightfully be criticised as not having a heavier R&R sound as others of the time, BUT, a couple trips around the world made them super tight as a band.
