As a guy with long arms, is there any difference between these exercises and the floor press?

Hi, if we dont have any spotter, should we use smith machine for barbell bench press or dumbell bench press?

No. You just NEVER put “clips” or “collars” on the bar. If you fail the lift, simply tilt the bar to one side and allow the plates to fall off the bar. Another thing to consider when lifting by yourself, always leave one or two reps “in the tank”. Don’t go to complete failure.

Awesome video very informative. I’m always learning. How can a block of wood be used squatting? Hit 325-6 raw bench at 51 an over 50 year old pr for me.

@AllanGreenson Thanks for watching!! Check out this video on why the block of wood is useful for squats (it can fix "knee slide"): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX3Ydql7ermIeNE

In my mind there is no practical benefit to the bench press, it's clearly a specific situational movement that isn't functional in daily life. The overhead press is far superior in both overall strength and functionality.

That is correct.

I know there are individual differences, but I don't understand this perspective. Over the last 2 years I've done lots of OHP and bench both. Starting with SSLP and then going from there with different programs. Sometimes just OHP and sometimes just bench to experiment. I like the OHP a lot but ... all it really does is blow up my front delts. If I stop benching, I get weaker in general. If I stop OHP-ing ... I continue getting stronger and nothing changes. I'm coming to the conclusion that the OHP is fun but is overrated for general strength development. I've gotten much better progress from the combination of behind-the neck presses and wide grip upright rows for shoulder strength and health.

No reason not to bench dip and ohp and push variations from beginner to advanced I think most people should have a base with push ups and then build a base of strenght with bench then the dips and OHP just fill in the blanks it’s incredible , however majority of folks don’t need to hyper specialize in the bench but ya
