Dumb newbie question incoming: Why do these torches have a second oxy knob? I've only worked with a Beth Alpha so far (because there's like nobody here who blows glass), and I'm wondering what the point is in having two different oxygen adjustments on a torch such as this, and do they connect to a second oxy input or something? Is it maybe a fine/coarse adjustment kinda like the two different focusing knobs on a microscope? Or what? Thanks.

Hey thanks guys! Really appreciate the hands on videos, I have learned a lot from watching. I have used a Red Max for the last 4 years and have a question about flame chemistry. Nortel recommends using 5 psi on the gas and 15 psi on O2, but I always set mine to 10 psi gas and 20 psi on O2. How does the difference in psi settings effect the flame? Should I continue to set the psi that high? Or lower back to the recommended settings? I have read others using much higher settings on their Red Max. I'm also looking forward to a video on fuming, can't wait! Thanks again guys, you rock!
@MadSativa10 жыл бұрын
on your torch it just messes with knob response, as you have to move the knobs less to get a desired result. I used to like this but I now set my regs to what Nortel recommends it requires moving the knobs more but I can get a bit more precision from it.

Just up front, glass is very new to me. No experience with it whatsoever, but I do have a little bit of oxyacetylene welding experience. For example, when welding steel, I tend to use an oxidizing flame instead of a carburizing flame because the excess carbon hardens the surface of the metal (which could be both good or bad depending on what the weld is on.) My question is, when/why/where would you use the different kinds of flames for different applications in blowing glass?

just a quick question what kind of GTT torch should i be looking at to start off, i want something i can grow into and not out off too quickly and i would rather buy once than have to sell and by another later on. I dont have the 5k for a torch like yours, would a mirage torch be a good starting point?

oxygen is extremely flamable even by itself, it dosent light becasue of the pressure of it when it comes out the torch
@revereglass2 жыл бұрын
Oxygen is not flammable, but it can cause other materials that burn to ignite more easily and to burn far more rapidly. The result is that a fire involving oxygen can appear explosive-like.

@MattJasa9 жыл бұрын
+DailyJuggle Haha yea he didn't go into detail there. Those knobs are for his 1st stage torch(7 ports in the middle called the Lynx). Setting them low will give you that sharp flame. Then hes saying you can add 1 more knob the '2nd stage oxygen' to help sharpen the flame by adding more oxygen around the outside of it.

Should I watch out if I use a specific flame for too long? I heard you could damage ports if you use too hot of a flame for a prolonged period
@MattJasa9 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin “kawaiimeatpie” Walker For GGT they recommend keeping candle length above 1/4th" specially for lower pressure set ups. You essentially need to push the gas combustion away from the torch face or you'll start melting ports.

Each set of knobs controls one ring of flame on the torch. The first set of knobs (the ones closest to the flame) controls the center 7 jets of flame. The next set of knobs controls the middle ring of flames (33 jets of flame if I recall correctly), and the final set of knobs controls the outer ring of flame (50 jets if I am remembering right.)
