Actually, according to the rulebook it's still an Illegal Slide and the Umps missed the Call. You cannot deviate from the pathway to initiate contact with the fielder. Rhys slid Feet first and managed to not hit the bag AT ALL with either of his Legs. Pros don't "accidentally" miss the Bag with their Feet when they slide Feet first lmao

I remember when turning 2 used to be fun on both ends. As the runner, you'd slide into 2nd base to break up the play, and then part of the challenge when turning the double play as a second baseman or shortstop involved throwing it while also getting out of the way of the runner trying to take you out. I say bring it back, and bring back home plate collisions while you're at it. Just like fights in hockey make it more exciting, so did breaking up double plays and home plate collisions

The Mets announcers are complete idiots, the prob lo em with that slide is that Hoskins rolled his left shoulder into McNeil's right knee! That is intentional contact, thus intent to injure!

When you get one leg clipped by someone coming in cleats up as a middle infielder always give it right back a cleat, knee, or elbow as you fall on top of the baserunner. If you do it right, they will get the point.

I will never understand why baserunners are allowed to slide right at the ankles of the second baseman. Whenever I ask a baseball fan no one can ever give a legitimate reason besides that's how it has always been.

Hoskins was absolutely out but he still aimed his stretched left leg and foot to spike McNeil's ankle with full force. That looked somewhat intentional without any regard for potential injury. Those ankle injuries are risky and we're glad McNeil was fine. He is the one who faced that risk and therefore has the right to disagree with Hoskins. Let's move on.

Yep he aimed for both legs and then proceeded to roll onto one of them.

I've had three ACL surgeries over the years from playing basketball. NONE of them happened due to anyone playing dirty. But knowing the rules of baseball today - and watching what happened....... if I was the second baseman, that runner would be needing stitches on his face from my spikes. (yes - I realize his dirty, possibly career ending slide was technically legal today)
