Question (for those knowledgeable about baseball rules and history), does this create a weird precedent for future consideration? Here's what we got: -Garcia HR's and went overboard celebrating. -In a regular game, he would get plunked. Not saying I agree, but know/own that if you overly celebrate. But this was a close ALCS game. -Flash forward to his next appearance in the 8th inning, Astros pitching and down by 2, 1 out, a FAST guy on 1st (Carter) who they expect to steal. -Abreu is NOT on his game. Carter reached on a 5-pitch walk after Abreu was brought in. Astros asked him to use a slide release in case Carter tried to steal. Abreu had not attempted this all season. The next pitch, unsurprisingly, runs inside and catches Garcia on the elbow pad. -Garcia immediately believes it's intentional, based on prev AB. He confronts/contacts both Maldy and the ump, who tries to separate them. Benches clear, nothing else crazy occurs. -The crew ejects Garcia for his tantrum and Abreu for "intentionally throwing" at Gracia. The question: Does this set a precedent that crews will toss a pitcher based solely on the batter's belief an HBP is intentional? It seems like a Kangaroo Court for a crew to toss a pitcher on speculative intent, even with little evidence and rationale to the contrary? If hitters throw a tantrum, will they continue to eject pitchers with little/no cause? I think the ejections were sufficient, no need to suspend anyone, especially given the circumstances. Not that a 2 game suspension next year matters, either (which may have been the intent). It affected the Rangers more in this situation. They lost one of their better batters. Abreu is usually a good reliever, but he was not on his game in his last three appearances. I'm just curious if a weak batter were to throw enough of a tantrum, would they eject a solid pitcher just to appease both parties?
@freezy859310 ай бұрын
Adolis definitely needed to be suspended though…

I keep saying it. Intention doesn't matter.. Optics matter more. The MLB couldn't let them say it wasn't intentional.

Umps disregarded the logic that you don't plunk a guy down by two runs, and assumed it was on purpose because of Garcia's last at bat. WTF
@freezy859310 ай бұрын
The umps were biased and it shows in the score card, favored the Rangers by .72 runs…

I'm a Rangers fan, but I don't think that Abreu hit Garcia on purpose. It was still a winnable game for them, and I can't see them potentially throwing that away to be petty. Is it a little suspicious that Garcia was the one who got hit? Maybe? But I still don't think it was intentional. Garcia is a pretty emotional player. He loves to hype up the team and the fans when he gets big hits, so this wasn't meant as a disrespect to the Astros. It's just what he does haha. He also let those emotions get the best of him when he was hit, and it threw the whole vibe of the game off. I wish he could have kept his anger in check and taken his free base. I also think it's wrong for Abreu to be suspended, because I just don't see how they could prove that it was intentional. Just let them all play and finish this out. It's best for the game if both teams are at 100%. Props to Alvarez for being a mediator in the situation and calming Garcia down. And I have to tip my cap to Altuve for coming in clutch. I'm glad we won game 6 because I wanted this to go 7 games! Let's go!! I hope both teams are ready to give us a hell of a finale! 💪

Alvarez and Garcia are best friends and have played ball together since they were kids in Cuba. Any friend would do what Alvarez did for his. Alvarez doesnt want his friend to be suspended, even if he does play for another team.

It was not intentional. Why on earth would he hit someone in that situation down by 2 with a runner on? That would be beyond stupid. Also notice that the next pitch right after Altuves homer dubon gets a ball right ti the head, yet nobody seems to talk about that

That coach could play left tackle in the NFL for about 15 teams. Perfect recovery, quick feet and look at that hand movement to get inside the pads.
