Huge Benchmade fan. I swore total loyalty to my 710 EDC, however after seeing this float around KZbin for so long I decided to order one today. I don't expect to be disappointed, this thing looks stellar.

I bought this blade a couple days later from my original comment and have to say it's one of my favorite outdoor use folders. It will replace my Spyderco PM2 for camping when I'm not fishing for sure! I did however swap the deep carry clip with my 940, because I wanted better access to the Contego in case I need to cut a pack strap in an emergency and I can't get to my neck knife. Also the 940 is freaking awesome as a deep carry EDC! Thanks Benchmade.

I am actually also thinking of getting it on my pay day! Are you happy with it so far? I am just worried that the scales are a bit rough. I do work in construction so I am not too phased about it though.

BM, Thank You for the destructive testing but I am having trouble understanding lock & stop pin strength in inch pounds? What does that mean in the real world terms; will it hold the weight of a person? The video showed the stop pin failing at 1400ish inch pounds so does that mean it held 1400 pounds of force applied and then deflected 6/10th of a inch?
@Relsek17 жыл бұрын
This is really late, but in case you're still interested the reading is in torque. This means 1400 pounds applied 1 inch away from the pivot will break it. This is the same as 700 lbs 2 inches away or 350 lbs 4 inches away from the pivot.

@leecasseday44248 жыл бұрын
The contego is probably the closest to similarity to the 950 rift, but you don't have a video testing that. Is that in the works?

@LCO2138 жыл бұрын
At of all the knives I own the Benchmade 810 is the easiest to open and close while wearing gloves, which is the reason I edc this sweet knife...I need leather gloves for work. While wearing gloves the 810 is easier to open and close than my Spyderco paramilitary 2, and easier than my Hogue EX-01. So easy in fact that my deployment isn't slowed whatsoever when compared to no gloves. The lock makes it very easy to close with gloved hands as well. I haven't had to sharpen it yet either. Really great knife.
@Prometheus111111 жыл бұрын
was the knife resharpened between segments or did it have the same edge through all the cut tests? also i must say i am impressed at how tough that blade is. it makes me glad i have an 810 contego in my pocket.

I would say probably the same edge. M4 is the most wear resistant steel benchmade uses and they harden it properly too. I love my 810 also and M4 is an awesome steel.
@thrashTele10 жыл бұрын
Is that the first blade tip to not break? These are great tests to see. I am waiting on my first custom 550 grip. And these vids make me want to order others. Great job I prefered the glass break test though,lol.

Hi! I want to advance Sorry for the spelling (. Wanted to ask - with such a strong corrugated lining on the handle when the power operation is not will there be a negative feeling in the palm of your hand?
@saber62011 жыл бұрын
the 810 is one of my favorite Benchmade knives. Ranks up there with my 710 and 615 as an EDC. I'd love to see an 815 package at some point. yes I know about the Rift but I think the handle on the Contego is much better.

@AdamasOldblade4 жыл бұрын
Okay I truly love my Contego, but there is no way in utter hell mine has ever stood up to banging on a 2 x 4 and then could shave hair right after. I can get my knives so painfully sharp that they can do hanging hair cut tests just fine, but then of course the edge is extremely thin and will flatten out quickly at harder tasks. Basically I'm wondering what method of sharpening Benchmade does to their knives before filming these videos (I know that as of writing this comment this video is years old).

I bought this Knife at the Crossroads of the west I think. I didn't pay attention to the model. It actually took me awhile to find this one, when I saw the shape and the metal was CPM M4 I realized THIS IS IT!! Opens and close beautifully, cuts like crazy. It's a fantastic pocket knife that will do most anything and probably allot more than I have already tried. But seriously those tests make me squirm....EeESh stop doing that....It's not made for that!!

Watch the video carefully, most of the cutting it done through the tip, the shaving is done near the base of the blade. That being said, there isn't a lot of material cut and much of it isn't abrasive at all.
