I just received this BM 940 knife today 05/17/2019 and it is absolutely beautiful with the green aluminum scales and purple back spacer with the fantastic axis lock deployment is very smooth and it is extremely razor sharp this is my 3rd BM and not my last. :-)

I love my 940's! I have a regular green hard use one and the low use CF 940-1. If I get the G-10 version, it'll be the Blue/Black exclusive from knifeworks, because it's aesthetically pleasing to me more than the plain black. I'm not really into numbered knives because I like to use them. I also just bought a Contego and I can't keep it out of my pocket.

love the 940 awesome all the way. I had the Cabela's model with the d2 blade all black. it was super nice but also chipped if cutting in the cold. I also had the blue with carbon fiber insert Harley Davidson version which was really nice. :-)

Sure like your new knife. On your video asking what was our first serious knife. I put William Henry Titian .I should have put William Henry as the makers and Titian as the model sorry about that. In talking about s30v J Davis did a cut test with a sage 2 with s30v he said one of the best if not the best cut test he ever did with s30v. Hope all have a blessed day.

Interesting to me (casual interest in pocket-knives) how some manyfacturs still insist on having a recassa on the heel of their blades (e.g. most Spyderco's). Which gets in the way of sharpening and using the entire cutting edge if desired. Benchmade is not one of them. Hope they never stray from this "approach" to blade design. I don't yet own a Benchmade...but plan to try the 940 and a Bugout -3 or -4...if they don't ever relases a "standard model" wit Alu/S30V...or S35V. Looks like a knife ...both the 840's and the Bugouts....would make great EDC knives because of it's body shape/sizes. Possibly a 'forget it's there' knife.

I don't know man, I think the 940 is going to be going on long after I die. It's essentially Benchmade's second flagship blade next to their Bali-songs. Not that the blades you have are not going to go up in value, they certainly will, but I wouldn't anticipate them discontinuing the 940 line any time soon. Great video btw!

the only 940 you will carry and use is a Used one you find on ebay that has use and wear and tear on it. Then you wont feel bad about using it. There is a Knifeworks exclusive 940 that is a DREAM for 200.00 its a value too. If you havent seen it Do NOT go look..They also have a Contego Exclusive and its incredible. I cant look at knifes anymore....

4 day weekend for me mother F'rs!!!! :) i have the 940-1 in CF with blue anodized hardware and I cannot get myself to love it....i love Benchmade and have quite a few, and I do love flipping this thing, but to me, its just alright. I think it's too small for me, and it just doesn't excite me. Now, like I told you, I never sell, only add to my collection, so it will stay with me forever, but won't be touched much :) .... and its coming Frankie, its coming! I hear this a lot about BM knives and there really needs to be a true comparison. A lot of folks say the best comparison blade from Spyderco to the original 940 is the PM-2, which is fair except that the original 940 is anodized aluminum scales compared to G10 on the PM-2. Well now we have the 940-2 which levels the playing field a bit and brings that comparison a little closer. But the 940-2 is $170 and the PM-2 is $120-$130. Why the price difference? A. 100% of BM's knives are made in USA but only some models of Spyderco's lineup are. Because of that Spyderco can offer cheaper knives (even their U.S. made blades) because they're not losing as much in production costs. B. BM's customer service is far superior to Spyderco's. Not just with the free clips and stuff, but overall willingness to go above and beyond. For example, I had a 940-121 at one point that I purchased from eBay. There were a couple of small scuffs on the scales which only annoyed me because this was a Gold Class. I called BM about it, they said they haven't produced the 940-121 for several years and weren't sure they had the parts. Called me back a day later said they found 1 scale, emailed me an overnight shipping label, I sent the knife in, they replaced the scale, shipped it back to me. Didn't charge me a cent. Keep in mind I didn't buy this knife direct from BM it was on secondary market. So to me the 100% U.S.-made and amazing customer service justifies and additional $30-40 per knife IMO.

+Seth Davis that is all true. And great points. I never use the LifeSharp program myself but I love that it's there and will ALWAYS stand behind an all-American brand. But considering the price difference when you "build your own knife" off of benchmade's site you can save around 25$ just dropping to a "lower steel." I'm waiting for the 940s to drop into the "build your own knife" section. People will be going nuts. lol I would love customs 940s from Benchmade which multiple steel options.

I guess that's fair, it would be pretty rad if you had basically 100% control of the materials and styles they offered. Going off what you mentioned, you go to "customize your 940" and if you pick G10 scales, you only get a choice of S30V satin blades. But for that matter I think they should offer 154CM, S30V, S90V, their salt water steels, everything. I'd imagine that'd be quite an undertaking.

Would you consider doing a video about buying used knives? Many experienced collectors take for granted their knowledge of how to buy, but novice collectors have a very limited understanding. We think of eBay or maybe Craigslist. How do you buy or trade knives? Assuming most of us don't have KZbin channels, how should we acquire knives?
