The lock not fully going forward in the locked position is not a defect, it’s the way it’s designed to allow for future wear. Any cross bar type lock operates this way, even Benchmades. Just hold the knife with your thumb and finger behind the lock release on both sides so as not to allow it to travel backwards while you’re batoning and it should solve the issue. Also you can disengage the lock and allow the handle to angle down while batoning to as to not damage the lock or override it. You can baton with a slip joint knife in this manner. Just a few tips and tricks. You’re welcome.

I don't think it's a defect, it needs broken in period. However if need to baton with a folder do it on a pivot with the lock disengage!

I batoned my zt 0300 in a must use situation and preformed wonderfully. No change in the knife at all

I bought a SOG Seal XR about a month ago. The detent was ridiculously hard to overcome. I had to use excessive force to use the flipper which causes pain with the aggressive jimping. Opening the knife using the thumb hole was nearly impossible. However, after fidgeting with the knife for a month the detent has gotten a lot better. I can open the knife with my thumb sometimes, but if I apply a little pressure on the trigger with my index finger while using my thumb to open it it’s much easier. I batoned some kindling and the knife split it fine. I had no issue with the lock, but afterwards the pivot screw loosened and I had some blade wobble. I tightened the screw and it’s fine now. I’d not recommend this knife for batoning. Otherwise it’s fine.

Buy a hatchet to split wood. Save your folder from damage. I would not consider the SOG to have a defect. The knife was not designed for batonning wood. That’s why they make hatchets.

I purchased a SOG ultra yesterday (wanted a little light weight, slim knife) and started looking at SOGs lineup. That's a ridiculous failure... I use FOBOS Tier 1 C for outdoors but was interested in the SOG after seeing this little daily carry knife.

I have an Ultra and I have QC issues with it as well 👎 When I try to open it with the finger slot on the blade, it rubs against the liners and leaves carbon fiber dust on the gold coating. Edit: This is CuttingEdgeAction. I accidentally posted this reply from my gaming channel. Oops.

From my experience SOG treat customers like 💩. Haven't touched my bushcrafter for years. Reprofiled it to a sabervex so the cutting performance is way better but I just couldn't get used to the handle. The handle just ruins the knife for me.

I've been disappointed with the 2 premium knives I have from SOG. I'm surprised you don't like the handle on the Bushcrafter. The ergonomics are about perfect for me.

Hmm first off. Fixed blades have the strength and durability that folding knives just can never have. So they can never replace them. With the simple knowledge that fixed blades don't require pivot or body screws or a mechanical locking mechanism to be kept in an open position. Blade play and alignment issues will never plague a fixed blade. So imagine using a 400 dollar folding knife like a fixed blade, and after applying to much pressure and disengaging the locking mechanism the blade closes on all 4 fingers. Folding knives in my 25 years work of experience are meant to supplement, support fixed blades, not replace them

While it might not be the best idea, a Bugout CAN baton with the factory ramp and omega springs. I could force the Seal XR closed by hand. Edit: You added the part about your 25 years work experience so I'll go ahead and address that too. As stated in the video, this is for that silly hypothetical scenario where you only have a folding knife and a ferro rod. This is not a review. It's a torture test.

Never understood the point of these tests… why baton a big ass log with a folding knife? And then complain that it failed? Use a hatchet… $20 at the hardware store. SMH…😂😊😅

It's never advisable to baton a folding knife. The Bushcrafter is made for doing this type of work though.

@@CuttingEdgeAction nah man, that size blade is for wrist circumference sized material. Processing small stuff, not actual fire wood.

The Bushcrafter is a little shorter than I'd personally like for batoning, but it can do so easily. Just about any review you pull up will talk about the batoning performance. In Benchmade's own demo video, they baton a wedge into a huge piece of wood with a mallet.

While I agree with everything in your video,.I gotta tell you , technology will never make a folding knife that can replace.a fixed blade
